Overall great hotel and good service. Disappointed with the condition of the carpets (especially hallways) in the wing my room was in.

Good choice for Edinburgh city
Comfortable hotel and good location, short walk to most major attractions. Beware if driving, there is no hotel parking on site. Parking available in municipal indoor lot about ten minute walk. Hotel provides a discounted rate. Great breakfast buffet. Staff very helpful.
Traveler's tip on shopping
Most attractions near rail station and along Royal Walk. Dont miss Rose Street just around corner from George Hotel. Good shopping & pubs etc.

Great Location, not a luxury hotel
The location was great. It was only a 3 minute walk to Princes Street, a 15 minute walk to the castle and the royal mile, and a 20 minute walk to Holyrood Palace. The hotel was comfortable, but I think that I could have found a better hotel for the price. When I first arrived, staff member at the front desk grunted when she saw that she would have to get up to check me in. The front desk staff were lazy and not overly willing to help. Although, the concierge was quite friendly and helpful in planning tours and giving directions. My room was very small, with a small tv that I could barely see from the bed. The bathrooms were clean. Internet in the room is expensive, and phone calls were also quite pricey. My room was quiet every night but one. The first night I got in, there was a huge wedding, which was loud and went until after one in the morning. This hotel is a fine place to stay if you get a good rate and arent looking for luxury.
