This is a Red Lion Inn?

The hotel is easy to locate-it’s across from a now defunct, deserted, derelict lumber mill yard, in a economically downturned commercial area of town. Close to the newish Indian gambling casino, it must have served the once-busy lumber business. Little maintenance and cleanliness of outside public areas contrasted with good condition of rooms. Quiet, despite being next to soemwhat busy traffic area. In-house restaurant dated decor did not diminish friendliness of staff, plus meal voucher took sting out of room cost. Not a bad place for business travelers, or a safe haven for tired traveler. Expected more from a Red Lion Hotel.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Stay here for adjacent access to the dunes national park or for getting away from the casino. Not a long-stay accomodation.

Musty rooms!

The hotel was nice enough and the staff were unimpressive but did their jobs. The rooms were spacious and looked clean but they were so musty that my asthma was set off immediately. I tend to have very sensitive lungs but I had to do my full course of reactive treatments and then I was still wheezy. Other than that, everything was great! Thank you for the discounted rooms!

Antiquated Furnishings

This is the only Red Lion I’ve occupied that didn’t reflect high quality amenities and furnishings. The decor, bathroom fixtures, and other aspects of the room were outdated. It was almost as if you were visiting a point in time back in 1987. Floors are separated by paper-thin insulation, resulting in highly audible footsteps above. In general, I would be happy to recommend Red Lion hotels; unfortunately in this case, I cannot.

One of few hotels in town

There are not many hotels in Coos Bay. Red Lion is the nicest one in town. It is older, but clean. It is close to town, the bay, and the casino. It is only 10 minutes to the beach and the parks.

better than expected

We were surprised to find that the room was not only spacious and large, but that it had both a microwave and refrigerator available. These are both positive features that were not listed under the info part about the hotel on line. Wish they had a complementary breakfast bar like so many other hotels though. We found this hotel to be nice and would definitely stay there again.

Comfortable and friendly

Nice average accommodation. We liked the outdoor pool and hot tub the best. The staff was congenial and had a good sense of humor. The room was quiet and comfortable. The bed was good. The restaurant next door had a variety of offerings but we only had one meal there, preferring to explore.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

The historical museum was very well organized, a real pleasure to go through. Also enjoyed the beauty driving to and the short hikes into Silver Falls and Golden Falls, just inland from Coos Bay. Shore Acres garden is peaceful and gorgeous. Sunset Beach is a great spot for lunch. Coos Bay’s Curves is very friendly and welcoming. The Casino in the old lumber mill is interesting to have a look at.

Adequate Accomodation if Passing Through...

This hotel has seen better days and still recalls them... Though it appears to have been updated, it still feels like time travel back to the 80’s. It’s comfortable, but the location doesn’t allow for walking anywhere nearby (e.g., for meals). The restaurant was closed, though full menu was available in the bar. Not my cup of tea... The beds were comfortable!

Older, worn-out motel.

The room was clean on top, but door handles, etc. had a sticky, unattended feel. The bed was one of the worst I have ever tried to sleep in. It was way too soft and the pillows were huge, so I was in a cravasse with boulders at my neck. Their restaurant was very nice.

Very nice

Looks like we were put in the older wing, which was nicely remodeled, but was a little "damp" smelling. Otherwise, hotel was very nice.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Very nice

This Red Lion as usual was very nice & quite reasonably priced for the quality. Our next door "neighbor" were somewhat noisy, but not unreasonably considering the age of their baby. We only stayed one night, so didn’t use most of the amenities, but would readily recommend this place.

I would stay again

My boyfriend and I enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Everything was clean when we got there and the room exceeded our expectations. The check in service was friendly and the staff at the restaurant was super friendly. The restaurant service was kind of slow, but I think tat was the cooks fault not the waitresses, and housekeeping didn’t clean our rooms till very late in the day, and they asked us if we wanted it cleaned. Other than that the stay was great, we would stay there again if we ever go to Coos bay again.

One of the better choices in Coos Bay...

If you’re like our family, just spending a few days in Coos Bay, and not spending a lot of time in the hotel, then this is an acceptable choice. We had a party of 7 and split into two rooms. The best thing about this hotel is ACCESS! We love the old fashioned "motel" feature of this Red Lion to literally back your car right up to the door of your room! Makes moving a larger family (and all the baggage) in and out a DREAM for efficiency. But that is about all that is special... Some might not like this feature in terms of noise from right outside your door, etc. Again, this isn’t a resort in Hawaii or Palm Springs, just a place to sleep and shower... We had a great housekeeper that gave us extra towels and pillows without even being asked. We noticed the coffee maker still had someone else’s coffee pouch in it, but that was about all that was wrong. The worst is probably the fact that this is an older property. Even if it were remodeled...

Traveler's tip on dining

Room service (breakfast) was pretty good. And the Pancake Mill just down the street is even better!

Too loud...not impressed!

The heater in the room was very loud and we weren’t able to sleep at all! There was also no weather stripping around the door so cold air would constantly blow in. The room also smelled moldy.

Just average.

Room was very clean and well appointed. Bed was comfortable. Lack of proper weather sealing around entry door admitted excessive parking lot noise and the heater/AC unit was so loud it interrupted sleep throughout the night.

OR Coast Visit

We stayed at the hotel for only one night and had dinner at the restaurant which was very good. The room was good size for three people, clean; the parking space was less than 10 ft from the front door and great for unloading luggage. The problem we had was that my wife had difficulty breathing during the night and had to use her inhaler. The pillows may have had goose feathers or a previous guest had a pet.
