noisy A/C ... everything else great
Everything was great in the hotel, except the A/C (unfortunately required in this region) was banging regularly every few minutes...

Magical
We arrived after dark, driving through the jungle. This place was like a welcoming beacon. I has a charm not found at a larger hotel. The rooms are around a courtyard that contains the outdoor candlelit restaurant and pool. The rooms dont contain individual TVs,forcing guest into common areas that do (which was nice). The rooms do have lots of charm, with beds sequestered in little nooks and hand painted stencils on the walls. The beds are hard though and the maid never cleaned up one of our rooms. Over all well work the money, just a short stroll to the Ruins.
Traveler's tip on dining
We ate at the other hotels in the area, Mayaland for lunch and had a wonderful gourmet meal, complete with live strolling musicians, after a brief walk back from the ruins light show at HACIENDA CHICHEN RESORT.

A great retreat at Chichen Itza
The Villa Arqueologica is a great place to stay within walking distance of Chichen Itza, and the price is quite reasonable. If you take the day tour from somewhere else, you experience a very crowded archaeology site. If you stay at the site and go at 8 AM when the site opens, you can get Chichen to yourself, almost. The sound and light show at night is also interesting, and more accessible if you stay at the site. The Villa rooms are great, but not for the tall, as beds are inset in a 6-foot long "shelf". Rooms are recently updated, and adequately appointed; air conditioning worked efficiently, essential in the summer. The pool is in great shape. The Villas have a limited but tasty menu; for more variation, you can take a short drive into Piste for other dining opportunities. I would love to stay there again and visit the caves and other nearby sites.
