Not Impressed
All outdoor lights were out, including their hotel sign, so we passed by the hotel twice. Pool area was closed due to maintenance. Registration staff was not friendly. No one answered phone when we tried to order room service. Room was clean, but there was a large hole in the corner that looked like a mouse hole. We were trying to save money by staying outside of Duluth, but next time we will spend the extra dollars for a better experience.
Traveler's tip on dining
Grandmas Saloon & Deli in Duluth, MN had a wonderful selection. Food was awesome & filled us up so we didnt need to buy dinner. You can also buy their signature chicken wild rice soup to take home.

Not impressed
The hotel was in rough shape with a lot of construction projects that appeared as though theyve been sitting their, unfinished, for months. The outside sign was down so we drove right by it, the restaraunt/lounge was closed, the pool area had caution taped-off areas, and only one ice machine was working. I had requested a non-smoking room through Expedia (which I understand cannot be guaranteed)...we ended up in a smoking room that smelled awful and when I requrested to change rooms I was informed that they were full in a rude manner. During the second day of our stay, when returning to the hotel our room keys decided not to work, locking us out of the hotel and our room. Not a huge deal, but just another inconvenience on an already long list. The hotels website says they are .5 miles from Canal Park in Duluth, which is true...were you to swim across Lake Superior. In reality they are 5-6 miles or so from downtown Duluth. Breakfast was alright, pretty standard with the exception of expired orange juice cartons. I understand that this hotel isnt supposed to be a luxury hotel and that you get what you pay for, but simple functioning ameninities would have been appreciated.
Traveler's tip
Id recommend dropping a few extra bucks to stay in duluth as opposed to Superior.
