Luxury in London

In a nestled location, just off St James Street, is this jewel of a hotel - the Dukes. Everything about our stay was a delight - the self-operated elevator (you have to use it to understand)to the room, the cozy bar and the restaurant. It’s location is superb for any tourist. We will definitely stay there on our next visit to Londontown.

Traveler's tip on dining

All of the restaurants we were lucky to visit turned out to be expensive but the quality of the food and service was first class. Restaurants which are near the Dukes that you might think of visiting are the L’Orange on St James Street (a block and a half away)and Scott’s (a seafood restaurant where the "shaken not stirred martini" was invented) on Mount Street.

Fantastic

Duke’s Hotel was a great place to stay. The room was extremely comfortable, clean, and quiet. Duke’s Hotel is on a quiet street away from all of the hustle and bustle that London offers. Next time I stay in London, The Duke’s Hotel would be my only choice. Their bar was a great place to also relax and have a drink. I would also highly recommend eating at Veriswamy, England’s oldest Indian restaurant.

Traveler's tip on dining

Eat at Veriswamny off Regents Street for some of the best Indian food I have ever had.

Smiling Thieves ruined my trip to London

After reading the great reviews on here I chose Dukes for my 4 day trip to London. During check-in I was kindly asked for my visa to have on file. After going up to my room and doing some internet banking I realized $1550 (800 pounds) of my savings had been suspended from my card by Dukes. After phoning and asking why I have been charged they brushed me off and told me it was a temporary authorization charge which would be returned and I shouldn’t be concerned about. What they where not interested in was that my VISA was linked to my personal savings account and such a large chunk of change out of my savings seriously limited the fun I was able to have during my stay in London. Unfortunately, after checking out several days ago the suspension of funds has been promised to be returned on six separate occasions yet is still lingering over my account a week since checking in. Its ridiculous and wrong. Its not a nice feeling to have so much of your hard earned money effectively stolen from you for one week by the place you are staying AFTER you’ve paid so much to book your room, and in my case their actions limited the amount of fun I had in London with my friends and colleagues. Despite the hotel being boutique and well appointed, having my money stolen with a smile, then not being appropriately rectified is not my idea of 5 star service.

London’s best kept secret

In an enchanting cul de sac behind Green Park, this is English hospitality at its best. The rooms are a ittle small, but the bathrooms are state of the art, and the quality of the sheets, etc., are unparalleled. Five star experience, five star locattion, yet quiet and unassuming. And the price is out of this world. The martinis at the bar are rated the best in the WORLD by the Wall Street Journal.

Worth every penny

Duke’s is one of the best hotel experience I’ve had. The location is ideal and central, yet the rooms are quiet. The level of personal service was superb -- not just the usual, but also in fulfilling special requests. It’s pricey, yes, but welcome to London! I recommend it without reservation.

Favorite Hotel in London

I have stayed at Dukes many times and have never been disappointed. This was the first trip I booked through Expedia. The staff could not be more helpful, including theatre tickets on this trip. The hotel is always quiet in spite of its location just off St. James’s St. In the past they have helped us with Wimbledon logistics. The rooms are accurately described on their website and you can match the size of the room with how much you want to spend. Afternoon tea is one of our family favorites - don’t miss it.

Victorian London Lives!

There are obviously sleeker, more posh and edgier hotels in London. Dukes offers a gentle and civil reminder of the way the world used to be. Understated elegance and jewel-box rooms give patrons a cloistered and safe feeling of what travel must have been like in the Victorian age. Updated and decidedly not musty like some other older hotels. Dukes reminds the traveler of gentler times. Around the corner from Davidoffs, DR Harris’ Apothecary, Sotheby’s and some decent shopping I recommend it highly. Cheers!

Traveler's tip on dining

I try to dine at Veriswami (London’s oldest Indian restaurant) whenever I stay at Dukes.

Extremely impressed

The Dukes Hotel was perfect. I stayed there three nights on business and found the service and appointments top notch - and for a relative bargain price for London.
