Great Location

The hotel was located directly on the ocean with a great view from our room, which had a nice little outside porch. It was very convenient to have a cafe on premises for breakfast. The hotel is dated and our air conditioner did not work, but for a one night stay it was fine.

Great Getaway for Flexible Vacationers!

We felt the room was a bit small and could use some maintenance, but it was a very clean facility overall and RIGHT ON THE BEACH! We weren’t in the room very much because it was so nice hanging out on the grounds. The fellow travelers were very friendly, and we made many friends! We left grounds only for dinners and 2 excursions the entire week. It was wonderful for R&R, a true resort environment with really friendly, hard-working staff and the unrenovated rooms are a lot of bang for the buck (I can’t comment on the newer rooms, although they were offering tours I didn’t go). I would totally go to this place again - very relaxing for recovering workaholics.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Travel either late at night or on off-peak travel days to avoid the Cape Cod traffic. We did, and it would have been a major downer if we had gotten stuck in the traffic! Also, ask about military discounts for local attractions and services (if applicable to you) because I found the local merchants very supportive, allowing us to save a lot of money.

It ain’t the Ritz, but it ain’t bad

I was pretty nervous after reading some of the reviews on here, but was pleasantly surprised by a lovely two-night stay at the Soundings. We booked through Expedia and had a swift and issue-free check-in. The Soundings was recently bought by a new management company that’s updating the rooms and grounds, hence some of the reservation system confusion and construction (neither of which was an issue during our stay). Our room was as listed, and as expected. Clean, but dated, with an okay bed, working television, fridge, and A/C unit. Nothing particularly special, but if you’re heading to the Cape to spend time indoors, this isn’t the place for you. The beach was literally 100 yards from our front door, with a nice little porch overlooking it. A wonderful, private stretch that, even with full hotel capacity, was not crowded. Lounge chairs were a bit tough to come by after noon or so, but we were just fine on towels. Also, the water is fabulous - calm, comfortable temperature, only a small band of seashells to cross. The Soundings is a great old place to stay if you don’t care about a long line of perfect amenities. It’s clean, the staff is considerate, and more than anything, it’s incredibly affordable in a very lovely area of the Cape.
