What to expect: This 16-story Hyatt Regency is located on the south bank of Town Lake with a view of downtown Austin. A prime convention facility, the hotel is popular with business travelers. Glass elevators offer bird's-eye views of the lobby activity below.
Amenity highlights: The Hyatt Stay Fit gym features cardio equipment with personal LCD TVs. Guests can step outside to the sundeck for a dip in the hotel's large pool or a soak in the spa tub. Mountain bike rentals are available for guests who want to explore the Town Lake Trail. After a day of meetings, business travelers can relax with an icy margarita on a shaded patio with a commanding view of Town Lake.
Insider tip: Steps outside the hotel doors, guests can enjoy the system of hiking and biking trails that run along the shoreline of Town Lake. Throughout the year, boats give tours on Town Lake. Guests can also take a bat watching cruise. The Congress Street Bridge, one block from the hotel, is home to the largest urban bat colony in North America from mid-March to mid-November. Mexican Free-Tail bats—1.5 million of them—set up house in crevices under the bridge and emerge each day at sunset to dine on mosquitoes and other insects. Those wishing for a close-up view may wish to bring an umbrella.
