convenient Hotel location
Thanks to the chief receptionist I changed the room I got single with a queen bed, due to the very limited size of the room. The other room I got was standard double room, twin beds, single use, without upgrading of the rate.The staff was very friendly and helpful, but the hotel condition is the main weakness of Grande Hotel Do Porto. The unpleasant smelt was present in some periods of the day and night in the coridors and bathroom during my 5 days stay in October 2009. However, I intend to go back to this hotel at the end of November 2009 again, thanks to its great location and the extraordinary hospitality of the staff at the reception desk.
I went several times for dinner at the Majestic restoran, located near by the hotel. The food was good, the prices acceptable, the staff very helpull and polite.

Definatelly going back
This was my 2nd stay in this hotel. The Grande hotel Do Porto, is a good hotel with perfect location, in the center, close to the historic part of the city as well as shopping. Public transportation is around the corner and you have a choice of several buses as well as trains and trams. Clean, room with an air conditioner, roomy bathroom and TV with 3 english channels. Breakfast was good. Choices were to satisfy many tastes. Stuff is very nice, polite and helpfull. I am going back for sure.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Hotel is located in the center on pedestrian shopping street, very convenient. Buses and train are around the corner, so as supermarket is up the block. The oldest cafe Majestic is across the street, where you get great service, coffee and deserts. A few pretty good places to eat, inexpensive.
