Good Choice in Capitola
The Capitola Inn is basic and not fancy however, I would stay again. The good: very clean rooms, generous breakfast, excellent location, walking distance to beach shopping restaurants etc, secure neighborhood. rooms are mostly updated, swimming pool (for the kids). The bad: Close to freeway (and noise), exterior could use a coat of paint, air conditioner was noisy (however in Santa Cruz area you rarely need it)
The area between intersection of Capitola and Bay down to the waterfront is very walkable with shopping, restaurants, pier and boat fishing, surfing, kayak rentals. A great place.
