What to expect: The small, street-level entrance hall gives way to a vast, five-storey atrium decorated in the style of an English garden, complete with potted plants, striped sofas, display cabinets offering gifts, and a mustard-yellow gazebo that connects the lobby to an elevated internal terrace. The hotel is frequented by conference delegates during the week, and leisure travellers at the weekend.
Amenity highlights: Fitness enthusiasts can head to the Otium Health & Leisure facility to tone up on cardio and resistance machines, work out with free weights or unwind with a sauna or a dip in the heated pool. Insider tip: The oldest district in Brighton, known as the Lanes, is situated at the rear of the hotel. This area dates back to the 16th century and covers a square mile of cafes, pubs and shops. The buildings lining the narrow, winding pedestrianised streets are home to numerous independent antiques traders, jewellers, fashion boutiques and other specialist shops.

The Thistle Brighton features 208 air-conditioned guestrooms, all of which offer side sea views or views of the Lanes shopping area or the internal atrium. Rooms feature traditional dark mahogany furniture, including bedside cabinets, mirrored inset wardrobes and free-standing tables with fabric-covered light-wood armchairs. All are decorated in shades of gold and green with blue patterned carpeting and floor-to-ceiling drapes, and the walls are hung with framed and illuminated nautical prints.

The Promenade Restaurant - Modern restaurant located overlooking the seafront on the lobby’s mezzanine floor, decorated in the style of an English garden, complete with cane furniture, pillars with trellises, climbing plants and murals depicting garden or seaside scenes. The menu offers contemporary international fare, with dishes including Red Snapper with Roasted Fennel and Clams, Seared Pigeon Breast on Rhubarb Celery Sauerkraut and Rich Game Casserole in Port Wine. Open for lunch, dinner and buffet breakfasts.

Recreation
The hotel is sited midway between Brighton’s two piers. The West Pier burnt down in 2003, but the Palace Pier offers cafes, rides and an amusement arcade and is 200 metres from the hotel. The nearest golf course is approximately half a mile from the hotel. Bicycles and scooters are available for hire within 100 metres, and hikers can explore the trails of the South Downs, 1.5 miles away.
