What a View!!

Booked a self-sustaining 2 bedroom, 1 bath apartment. Unit was very modern and well maintained, the staff were pleasant and helpful. An added bonus was the awesome view from the balcony. We chose this in lieu of a hotel because of the privacy, comfort and ability to cook. The unit is located in a residential section, about 1+ mile from town center and very easy to walk to within 20 minutes. Saying this, it is up a hill, so be prepared with good walking shoes. We walked everywhere and never hired a car, taking various trips to Glenarchy and Millford Sound, with bus trasportation. Since the unit is self-sustaining you are responsible for purchasing everything, including extra toilet paper, papertowles and kleenex. Shopping is less expensive at the grocery store to the left of the airport (by 50%) than in town at Fresh Choice. New Zealand uses 240W power which was awesome but you will probably need a converter. Water boiled within 1-2 minutes. Speaking of water, although it is treated, it’s also better tasting and fresher than anything I am use to here in California. We stayed 9 days and it was the best time and the accomodations were excellent.

We tried various restaurants for lunch and dinner. The restaurants we most enjoyed were Thai Siam $10NZ lunch, downtown, Prime on the wharf (great three course meal, wine, meal, dessert- try the chocolate lava cake) for $49NZ and Brazz Wine Bar- Monday nite steak dinner BOGO - $36NZ for 2. Did the SS Earnslaw and dinner...... cruise is fun but the dinner way only so, so and not worth the money. The Millford Sound bus tour and cruise was awesome!! We used the KIWI Experience for the best price. Also did the Dart River 3 hour jet ride in Glenorchy - which is worth the $$. If you are a wine drinker buy it at the various liquore stores just outside of town center for the lower price. Would recommend you use your credit card for purchases, the conversion rate was better then cash. Oh, when you pay for dinner, it includes tax and tip, but if you get extra special service, leave your server a few extra dollars.
