Too far from town

Lovely place, but too far from town. The best meals were breakfasts. The other meals were not inspired--with the exception of excellent seviche. Staff is very friendly. The concierge is a treasure. Reviews I read before leaving home were helpful. Tipping is important. You will receive good enough service without tipping, but please tip. We left home with about $75.00 in dollar bills and used them to tip waiters and maids. We tipped maids daily and the waiters at each and every meal. And each drink by the pool. We took the bus to town once and it requires a change midway. Other times we took taxis. It is a 40 minute bus trip, and 30 minute (approx) taxi ride.

Sea turtles were laying their eggs on the beach when we were there!

Wonderful first all inclusive experience!

I absolutely had a great time on my honeymoon at this resort. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. The only complaint i have is that housekeeping & room service was inconsistent. Most of the time we were not given wash clothes. I did not receive the petite fours at turndown that my preferred status was suppose to include. I got them 1 night when i specifically called and requested them, but the other 6 nights nothing. The food ordered from room service was almost never correct and i had to ask for the extras included in my honeymoon package. Other than that the resort was very impressive. The daily activities were fun and the night shows were awesome. I would not recommend the sushi sky bar. Service up there was poor in comparison to the rest of the restaurants. They did not have wasabi or a menu one night. the other night i gave it a go they had a menu, but what i wanted off the menu they said they could not make. The staff definitely made the trip!!

bad food’s not worth the excellent service

Everything was awesome except for the food and don’t go here if you’re vegetarian (everything has meat in it); we didn’t eat a vegetarian diet there we just noticed it would be hard. My wife and I went on our honeymoon here and overall we had a really great trip. Our room was really nice and it was cleaned at least once or twice a day; the staff was really friendly and they gave us the honeymoon package for free. The pools were really nice and the drink service at the pools and the beach was good. The drinks were a little inconsistent from day to day, but they were always tasty and cold. Our favorite thing to do was hang out on the beach all day. Our least favorite thing was getting ourselves ready to go eat and I was never a picky eater until I went to villamagna. Sometimes at our meals we would be surprised and the food didn’t taste bad, but we never thought the food ever tasted good. The italian restaurant had the most edible meals, and the mexican restaurant was closed five out of the six nights we were there. overall the food was really inconsistent. Room service food was gross and cold (don’t order the tuna roll; its tuna, straight out of the can wrapped in warm lettuce and no sauce). The hotel was great but the food just sucked so bad that when my wife and I talk about our honeymoon we say "it was so fun but the food was awful". We never got sick from eating there, but we ended up eating like birds and that’s not acceptable when you pay for an all-inclusive.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

I would advise to take lots of books, tipping money for the staff (cause they do a great job), and go in to town and eat. Our best meal was definitely when we went into town. We took the bus into town and it was roughly $4 for the two of us, it was a long, hot and bumpy ride but it was fun. Take a cab from the airport to the hotel and try and get one for $15 and don’t pay more than $20. And walk past the time share people when you leave customs even if they’re screaming in your face.
