Horizon Casino Resort

No heat and no hot water.

That pretty much sums it up. The hotel is running like they are about to close down anyday. It was horrible. Cold and boring.

Good experiences

The hotel amennieties were good.. The best was the view we had in our room.. great lake view. Not to many slots machines and casino games but you have the others casinos across the street. Great location. Satisfied

Great service. Price was substantially less than surrounding hotels. Will definitely go back.

Budget fit and location was it!

Location and price were what we needed in S. Lake Tahoe. This hotel fit those needs. The only problem we had was the constant sound of the elevators moving throughout the hotel. Kind of like hearing rollercoasters in the distance.

Best Deal in Tahoe

I’m not sure why this hotel is getting so many bad reviews. I had a reservation for a Sunday night, got into Tahoe really early at like 6:45am and they gave me my room already! It was great, most hotels will make you wait even if rooms are available, I was able to eat breakfast and take a nap when I didn’t expect to. Yes the hotel is stripped down, but just the casino, the main restaurant Josh’s is under construction but the buffet and other restaurant that serves breakfast and the starbucks were all open. The casino has probably less than 100 slot machines and no table game, according to them it is because of a management shift and they have to re-apply for the license, no big deal for me, there are 4 other casinos withing 100 yards. Anyway, it was a pleasant time, can’t wait to go back, I hope the rates are still this low next time.

I would not recommend it

The hotel appears to be closing or going out of business therefore the upkeep and general ambiance was like a ghost town all slots and attractions were not running . The hotel hot water was scarce. The atmosphere was quiet and boring not at all how a casino is supposed to appear. Sorry

Not Impressed

The room was too hot, when complained to desk they said the AC was turned off for the winter, so they delivered a fan. Furthermore, for a casino there was no action. Slots only and then maybe 5-6 people using them. The only resturant was closed.

Bare bones

The Horizon has been stripped down to the bones. No frills and definately no gambling, just a couple dozen slot machines! Only one open restaurant while we were there. The pool was closed even though the weather was warm. The jacuzzi did not work properly (the water was cool, not hot) The eliptical machine in the workout room made a clunking sound when I used it. The price was right but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Not Impressed

The sound from the elevator running could be heard through the walls. Even moving our room to the far end of the hall didn’t take care of the sound of the elevator. The concierge said the sound was the wind, but it was definitely the constant sound of the elevator moving up and down.

Great view

The room was huge great view of the lake and edgewood golf course my wife and i were shocked at the great deal we got. would recommend to friends and family

Very Nice

We upgraded our room for very little per night so we had a view of the lake and a balcony. It was worth the extra money. We were on the 11th floor so we had a excellent view of the lake. The room is a simple room but clean and quiet.

overnight stay at Horizon

We went to the Horizon on Sunday 9/20, to attend a benefit concert. Our room was large, comfortable. And very clean. I would love to go back again. The price was certainly right, also. Other people in our group that stayed at other hotels, did not have the positive experience that we did. It is good to know, that despite the slowdown of economy, Horizon still takes pride in keeping the quality of their hotel high and the prices low.

Worst Sleep Ever

I was on the 14th floor in ght Alpine tower and all night there was a loud rumbling above my head like there was something moving back and forth above me. ALL NIGHT!

Disappointed

We have stayed here before and enjoyed it. Great pool. However, this time, the casino had all table games removed. The casino was practically empty every day. Not very inviting. We spent a lot of time at other resorts.

Dirty Dump

This place was bad. Had to wait until 9:00pm the second day to get clean towels. The next day we didn’t get any clean glasses. The tub was backed up and CRACKED. The room was not dusted, vacuumed or mopped at any time during the 3 days we were there. The last day we were there we opened the balcony door and in came spoke and a disgusting smell. There was a huge generator sitting right below our balcony. The hall smelled like pot all the time and when I complained the hotel manager said they could not control their guests and I was wrong by not calling security. After we recovered from the smoke and fumes we went down for breakfast to discover that their 24 hour cafe was no longer open. because of the smoke they did not charge us the extra twenty per night(that by the way no one told us about until we got to the hotel. Next year we will not stay at this hotel even though the function we will attend is a the Horizon.

Enjoyed our two night stay at this hotel. Room was comfortable and service was good. Very convenient location.

Rooms were okay. Nothing special or fancy. But the 24 hour restaurant part was horrible.(not because of the food, that was good) We ate at the 4 seasons downstairs. Awful experience. The food was good, when it finally got served. We were there on labor day weekend. You would think they would have more staff on such a busy holiday, but they didnt. We waited an hour for our table..the place wasnt even full. Then waited another hour (close to an hour and a half) for our food to be served. Even the waiter said it was gonna be awhile. i could have taken a nap. Other than that...if you need a place to sleep, it’ll do.

We checked in to our room at 5:00 and when we went up to our room, it was still a mess from the previous people who stayed there. They moved us up to the 9th floor, and the room was clean, The bed however was so uncomfortable, it sagged in the middle and we didn’t sleep well. Not to mention a friend of ours checked in later than us and asked to be on the 9th floor with us, they got a suite for the same price we paid. I would think for the inconvience we should have been given a suite. They didn’t have a concierge, so when I called to find out the info on the forrest buffett, no one could help me, I ended up searching the phone book. The casino was was empty, it looked like they took all the tables out, no poker, no blackjack, nothing, only a few slot machines. The buffet food was OKAY, it looked like it was slow so some of the food looked like it had been sitting out for a while.

Loved it very clean and the front desk was very helpful. Only one complain, this hotel does not have channel 26. This is a nation wide and very popular spanish channel.

Children love it during the day, but get bored at night. Not alot to do with the children in the night. Suggestion: bring games for the children from home

It use to be great and NOW it is a DIVE HOTEL!!

The Horizon lost their gaming licence and only have a few slot machines. The hotel is run down dirty with very little hotel staff. No hot water, no clean room, noisy and the air conditioning did not work. The hotel sent a fan to our room.

Would stay again.

You could hear the elevator running from our room. Other than that I have no complaints. Great deal for the price of the room.

Very adequate accomodations for the price. Their fine dining restaurant was excellent in the Hotel. Would stay there again.

What happened to the casino?

It looks like they are getting ready to sell or close this hotel/casino. Only one of the two towers are being used. The second tower has plaster peeling off the outside walls. Very run down looking. In the "casino", they now only have several dozen slot machines scattered around the huge floor. No table games at all. One of the two bars was only open late at night. The pool is not heated. The room was adequate, but the mattress on the king bed was so old, you rolled to the middle of the bed because of the sag. One positive was the main steakhouse restaraunt - we at their one night and it was quite good. I can see why the price of a room is about 1/2 that of the other hotel/casinos, but I’m not sure it was worth even that.
