Great location in South Kensington
Hotels in London are expensive and the rooms are small. The Regency is no exception, but the hotel is very well-kept and the room is nicely furnished (by London standards). A fantastic location makes all the difference-- easy walking to South Kensington, the museums, Earls Court, etc. If you dont expect to spend much time in the room, this hotel provides a great base. Note that wi-fi and use of the fitness center cost extra (about $15/day each).

Conveniant and pleasant, with only one recent complaint
Weve stayed at the Regency many times--the location is great, its clean and generally comfortable--and were planning on staying again sometime, but there was one thing that bugged us this time around: the air conditioning wasnt turned on, nor was the fan. I understand that theyre trying to save costs, but even in October it sometimes approached 70 outside, and our room got pretty stuffy. You cant leave the window open all night, due to outside traffic noise, so you just have to take it. At the least, I wish they would turn those units on on request. Other than that, this is a hotel were usually very pleased with, and am willing to go back again, certainly, even despite that one complaint.
Always take the Tube from Heathrow; the trains and taxis are incredibly expensive compared to the Tube, which costs about $6-8 to go from the airport to central London. It runs from about 6 am to about midnight. Also, always get a hotel within a couple blocks of a Tube station, and if youre planning more than one trip to London, buy an OYSTER card for convenience and cost. We only eat sit-down meals at supper, preferring baguettes or paninis or a quick pub meal for lunch, which saves time and money. However, if you want to eat at a specific fancy restaurant, eat lunch there--its going to cost about 50% less with no change in quality.
