Stay away from the small rooms
I was expecting an actual bathroom; instead, I got a sink, a shower and a toilet closet in the room. Fine, it was a cheap room (though really not that cheap, considering the fact I got a sale price), but heres the problem: THE TOILET CLOSET WAS TOO SMALL. The toilet was oriented sideways, which meant sidling in to use it. Might not have been a problem, except that there was so little clearance between the front of the toilet and the wall that I had to take a "wide stance" to use the facilities as there wasnt enough room for my knees or feet, which created some problems when I had to pull down my pants. This eventually led to having to just take my pants off before climbing in to use the toilet. Oh, and did I mention the lack of knee room? Yeah, that also translated to lack of foot room, meaning I had to essentially *mount* the toilet like a horse. You cant really ride those things sidesaddle, though apparently other guests had tried, judging from the fact that the seat had been ripped off so that I had to push it back into place every time I raised the lid. That was really the only problem with the room (though, admittedly, a big one which contributed to my going home early). Id recommend the hotel, just not the smallest rooms. Ask about the facilities! Its not easy to tell from the entry on Expedia what the deal is.

Excellent for what it is
This hotel is very charming and walking distance (10 min walk to Old Port, 10 min walk to shopping & restaurants)to most everything if you are able-bodied. Staff are very friendly (would often chat with us when we got back at 3am from adventures with friends) and our room was clean. The style, finishes and carpentry were a little quirky (think pop art meets old french apartment)and our bed had a bit of a dip in it, but this is not a luxury hotel. Its good for young people that want a good starting point to explore the city from and just want a place to rest and clean up. Our room faced the hospital across rue St. Denis, so it was a little noisy sometimes to sleep with windows open. Overall, it was an experience that added to our trip and we loved telling friends about the old fireplace and window seat in the room. If you dont go expecting five star luxury, then you should be fine. Good people and lots of fun!
