Compassion in the Gold Coast!
When we arrived in Chicago, we were ushered into an illegitimate taxi. The driver charged us twice the fare from the airport to the hotel than he should have and would not give us our luggage until we paid him. We were distraught as we checked in, and the two lovely ladies at the front desk were infuriated at what had happened to us. So, without being asked or prompted in any way, they upgraded us to a suite for no extra charge! Then, when we got to our room, they had put together a care package of drinks and snacks and card saying how they hoped our Chicago experience got better. Surely that was above and beyond anything a clerk would be expected to do, and we were so touched. Also, the doorman was amazing. He ended up having to lug our luggage to two different floors, but he just kept talking and laughing and didnt seem to mind at all. He also arranged us a taxi back to the airport that offered us a discount. The hotel itself is fun and funky. They have incorporated conch shells into everything! I would say that if you look too closely you can see that things are just aestheticly pleasing, not necessarily expensive and luxurious. But what more do you need for a week or two? We got an excellent price, especially taking into account our free upgrade, and you cannot beat staying in the Gold Coast.
You must do the observatory at the Hancock Center first thing. It gives you the opportunity to get a complete visual layout of the city and of all the things you are going to do throughout the week. It is kind of the same effect as a restaurant menu having a picture of the dish you have ordered and going to try for the first time. Also, if you are not familiar with Chicagos history, the audio tour is a great place to get an overview. Also, we were given many different reviews of the Sears Tour (now Willis Tour). I would recommend doing both. The view is not as great or helpful as the Hancock, but the sky deck is so much fun!

Great Location
I was completely satisfied with the hotel. It was located in a safe location near shopping, restaurants and nightlife. It was an older hotel but had been completely redone in bright cheerful colors. I would definitely go back!

It was much better than I expected
I had to go to Chicago for the Marathon, and was running out of time to make an hotel reservation, I searched on expedia and got a very good deal on Hotel+Car, considering this, I thougt the Hotel was not going to be such a nice one, it was a great surprise for me and my wife when we got to the hotel it was perfect and the room was so nice and different than the common business hotel, the experience was very nice and the attention from the people was great too, when in Chicago we will definetivelly stay at it again. The only negative issue is that it does not have a car parking so you have to pay almost $40 buck a day for the parking next door... not nice.
Dont rent a car when you travel to Chicago, use the CTA ( metro or bus).
