Hellish customer service
My boyfriend couldnt wait to suprise me for birthday with a weekend trip to Catalina Island. The moment we arrived at the Catalina Canyon Resort and Spa customer service was completely absent!! We checked in and the staff couldnt tell us a single helpful thing about things to do on the island (luckily my boyfriend had a done a little research of his own!). Then, the girl at the front desk told us she had to verify a credit card for incidentals. We checked our debit card/visa acct in the morning and 293.90 was pending from he hotel!! We checked with the front desk and first the gentleman told us it was an error by the girl who checked us in - she was new supposedly - then they told us that it was being held for incidentals and they normally hold 500 dollars!! The entire time we were on the island we had ABSOLUTELY NO ACCESS TO THAT MONEY. Then we went to check out at 7am to catch the ferry back to Long Beach and the office was locked with no staff member even there! We call the manager number from the phones and no answer. Finally, the girl that originally checked us in shows up eating her Hot Pocket breakfast and starts complaining that she cant get in, COMPLETELY ignoring the two of us. We barely made the ferry... finally bidding this horrible NO STAR HOTEL adeiu.
The casino theater: dont pay for a tour, pay for the movie they have showing that night and see how gorgeous this theater truly is! Staff is really friendly as well. El Galleon restaraunt: Our server Chava was simply amazing. We had the house specials (shrimp and serloin kabobs with parmesan mashed potatoes) and they were simply delicious, excellently priced and well portioned. The decor is so interesting... you can see the history. and this bar is great for catching a quick sports game... we watched a world series game the night we had dinner. Last but not least, Ghost Tours: it may be a little corny, but it lets you see parts of the island you wouldnt normally see and gives you great history about the island and its many haunts.

Nice hotel, a little far
Nice hotel, but need shuttle all the time to get to downtown. Has pool (other hotels dont), view is OK.

Lack of Costumer Service
I found a sock, chocolate bar, and ped egg in my room. When I notified the front desk I was brushed off by the cleaning staff and was not allowed to change rooms nor was I compensated for their lack of professionalism.
