NIce hotel - Good location
This hotel was in a great location - walking distance from the train station and all the sights. The style of the hotel and decor was very grand and although older, it was very clean. The staff was helpful in providing directions and restaurant recommendation. On the slight downside, the room was a little warm at night but this WAS Sicily in August and there were renovations being done outside our window in the early morning.

Faded Glory Yet Still A Reasonably Good Place to Stay
Overall hotel was better than we expected. We had read numerous reviews about "faded glory" and the decline of this hotel. Sure the public areas could be in better shape, but they still have character and charm. We stayed in an updated room and it was quite comfortable although the new decor was somewhat neutral. The bathroom was well done and much better than expected. Breakfast buffet had a large selection of breads, pastries, and juices, but a very limited selection of cold meat and cheese slices. Those hoping for an American or English breakfast will be disappointed. The hotel staff (registration and concierge) seemed somewhat indifferent. Location is generally favorable. We did not need air conditionaing or heating so we cannot express an opinion on that. This hotel would likely meet the needs and expectations of most guests.
