Great location, BADLY in need of renovation

This hotel’s rating is misleading. The hotel’s location is wonderful, and the room itself was enormous. However, the bathroom had paint peeling off the walls, the ancient sink had enamel gouged out, and the overall state of the hallways and stairs was atrocious. We used to live in Paris and are used to ’dated charm’, but this hotel either needs to lose a star or hire some renovators.

Traveler's tip on dining

Great new little bistro right up the street - Yolaine. Wonderful food -

Normandy Hotel: Location, location, location

In addition to the central location of the hotel, it provides a free business center open 24 hours. The staff are friendly, and they speak English. No A/C though, but when I requested a fan, it was provided. The hotel is clean, but old.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

It’s only a 5-minute walk to the Louvre Museum.

Extremely Convenient Location

This hotel is in an extremely convenient location and is moderately priced when compared with other hotels in Paris. I havent stayed at very many hotels in Europe, but I suppose the rooms are pretty average by European standards. The room I stayed in was small, but comfortable. In addition, the staff was very polite and helpful. I would consider staying at the Normandy again if I return to Paris. Its central location is ideal for sightseeing and it is only a couple blocks from a Metro stop which makes it easy to get anywhere in the city.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Go to the top of the Eiffel Tower after dark. The tower looks beautiful when its light it up, and every hour on the hour it twinkles. In addition, the city of Paris looks beautiful at night and you will have an excellent view. The tower is open till 12am in the summer, but I think the last lift goes up at 11:30pm. If youre up for a challenge, Id recommend taking the stairs to the first level (Youll have to take an elevator to get the rest of the way though).

Normandy Hotel

This hotel had a great location! It was an older hotel which is what makes it so charming. I loved the little balcony off of my room. It was convenient to all the sights I wanted to see. There are many great restaurants nearby too.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

so close to everything!

Very enjoyable experience.

The hotel is set on a large property and away from the traffic of the street. There were horses on in the fenced off area and that added to the overall natural environment of the area. The room we stayed in was in the "new" section of the hotel and was very nice and quiet. The dinner at the hotel’s resturant was good, and the service was excellent.

Tired and Old

The hotel is located in a great location and walking distance to the Louvre, Tulieries, Opera, etc. but needs a complete overhaul. The price does not reflect the old and tired accommodations. Peeling ceilings, walls, broken tiles, etc. Large rooms and tall ceilings. Great details and good bones but arrogant in price and star rating.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Don’t get the rooms on the street side...very, very noisy!!! No AC and bad service.

Convenient but not cheap

The hotel is very close to the Louvre Museum and subway. It has many restaurants around. The triple room is spacious with old furniture. Convenient for exploration of central Paris. Downside: rate is pretty high; the elevator is very small and slow, have to take the stairs often; some rooms do not have A/C and mosquitoes are big threat if you open the windows at night.

If you are looking for a great location and an attitude, bingo

Room size was fine, actually had two rooms, king room had paint flaking from ceiling and all bath fixtures were not functional. Oh yea, no mini-bar, just told to go to front desk......total hassle. I would suggest spending a little more for a real 4-star, don’t know how they got this rating. Not all bad, location was fantastic, don’t drive it’s 50 euros a day to park.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

In the middle of museums, shopping, sidewalk cafes in a perfect location, a little short on the star ratings. I’ve been in worse for more $$, still location was king.

Convenience Plus.....

The location of this hotel could not be better. The lobby is marble and quite beautiful even though it is old. It is clean and the staff was bend-over helpful. Our room number was 509 and was surprisingly very large. We did peek in open door rooms while they were being cleaned as we walked by and most we saw were not as large as ours. The bed and bedding was comfortable, abundant towels and shampoo etc. Yes, the ceiling of the bathroom has paint peeling and dated tiles but it is clean and servicable. Plenty of hot water as well. We did not pay for the Four Seasons and felt that we got a good value for our buck. I would stay here again without a doubt but I would request the same spacious room.

Traveler's tip

We found we liked using the taxi vs the metro. The cost was pretty comparable, but less wait time, no dark, dingy metro stations. Drivers do not "take the long way" and are helpful. As you are arriving at your location you can see other interesting places you want to stop at on the ride or walk back (can’t do that underground) But then I do not like being underground so take this tip as you may.

Excellent experience

Fantastic location - a block from the Louvre and 2 blocks from the Opera. Easy to get around: two Metro stations within 3 minutes walk. Great old building with a feel and look of the Old World hotels - spiral stairs, plush carpet, mirrors, lots of detailing. The service is appropriately courteous and impecable. The room showed some signs of aging - the bathroom had some cracked plaster and rusted edges of the bathtub. However this added to the feel of the ’old’ hotel. I’d love to stay there again. For the location and the ’feel’ of the hotel, it’s highly recommended.

Notr Impressed

Hotel was nice, and in good central location. However, there were a few issues with our room. the bed was very uncomfortable and low to the ground. The mini refigerator in the room which served as the mini bar was not working. Not that we wanted to use the bar, but it would have been nice to store some food the we bought ourselves in the frig. Since it was not working, it had an awful smell when opened. Complaints to staff about frig were ignored. A/C unit in room was not working.

Comfort and Convenience

The location of this hotel is excellent, a stones throw from the Louvre and several Metro stops. Several chain restaurants are just a few doors down as well as a small market for less expensive snacks and beverages. Souvenir stores, boutiques and cafes line the nearby Rue de Rivoli, very convenient when coming and going. The hotel itself is old and beautiful. Not everything is perfect, but it was always clean and quiet. The staff was happy to speak English for us. We would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting convenience at a good price!

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Stop by a small market for snacks and beverages. You’ll save a lot of money. We would refill a waterbottle and used individual lemonade packets to make lemonade. Then you can splurge on crepes and chocolate mousse!

Not what it’s billed for

This is an okay hotel. Air-conditioning appeared to be available in the rooms below me, but I didn’t have it. The location is perfect. The hotel is old, and that must be accommodated for. I would not give this hotel as high of "star" rating as was given it. However, the bathroom was always clean, the service was good, but don’t imagine the "Ritz" when you book this hotel. You are booking for the location, which really is perfect for a hotel in Paris. Overall, I would probably pick another hotel if I were to go to Paris again, but for the price, the location, and the service i might be inclined to go back even with the less than perfect rooms. If you are looking for a place that has the location and you will sleep in, this is a good choice provided the weather is accommodating with the possibility of no AC.

AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS!

We have stayed at this property 4 times over the past 8 years. It is now in such a state of disrepair that it is unacceptable as a place to stay in Paris. This time we stayed 6 nights over New Years. The room was not a "superior" room it was a standard (we’ve stayed before so we know the difference). There was only heat - blazing hot - so we had to sleep with the windows open while it snowed. There were no English TV channels. CNN was out and everyday they kept saying "tomorrow". Location is great, but there are lots of hotels in this area to choose from, so choose another hotel. Do not make the mistake of staying here or your trip will be ruined.

Definitely Not a 4 Star

The staff was very nice, and tried to be as accommodating as possible... it’s too bad that the rooms did not live up to their standard. In my room there was either paint or wall paper peeling off the walls in huge chunks right over the two twin beds, no alarm clock, floor molding coming off, and the room itself was more often than not very cold. Overall it looked as if the hotel hadn’t been updated in decades. The one nice thing is that it was in a nice location; close to a Metro station and the Louvre.

Geographically Desirable Hotel

The Normandy is a quiet, old hotel just 1 1/2 blocks from the Louvre. Breakfast offering was extensive for just 7 1/2 euros per person.

Traveler's tip on dining

The food court in the Louvre offers the BEST food value in Paris. Lots of choices, and delicious choices for all tastes

Great location; needs renovation

You can’t beat the location of this hotel - right near the Louvre and other sites. However, this is not a 4 star hotel (maybe 2-3). I stayed in a single budget room for 2 nights. It was fine for my purposes because I was out sight-seeing most of the time. Not all the rooms have air conditioning (I was lucky that it was cool at night) and they provided me a fan. The hotel shows serious signs of age and has clearly not been renovated in a while. I would only recommend this hotel if you get a good price, don’t plan to spend much time in the room, and want a great location.

Very good, very Parisian

I enjoyed the stay very much, ..start with kindness and you are likely to receive nothing but kindness in France in return. The staff was excellent, responding quickly and professionally on all instances. Most everything in the hotlel has been recently redone, but it is still a two hundred year old hotel. To me it could not have been better, great loacation and no corporate feel to the hotel. Room service food was very good and easy access to metro and bus stops. I’ll be back!!

Close to Everything but Older

Hotel was clean, but very old--like most hotels in the area. The elevator was very small and cramped. Rooms could have used an update, and were very European--which is charming I suppose. Close to everything which is a plus. If you are in good shape, it is within walking distance of most attractions including the Louvre, Notre Dame, Saint Chapelle, Champs Elysee, Arch De Triumph, Eiffel Tower etc. Be fore warned, that not all of the staff can speak English.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Get a two-day museum pass. It is well worth it. You get to skip many of the long lines, and you will save yourself a buck or two. Be aware however that the lines to pickup the museum pass may be long and slow--so get their as early as possible.
