First class and very comfortable

I have stayed in other Savoy hotels and have always had a fabulous experience. This one is no different.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Away Without Kids

We loved the location with most places quite walkable. Also there was easy access to the the Metro and Buses. We enjoyed eating lunch at the small deli’s around the area. On really hot humid days the hill to the hotel area did get to us. The room was clean and comfortable as was the bathroom. Being able to eat breakfast at hotel was a big time and money saver. Hotel staff were mostly pleasant but did not go out of their way to help. You needed to ask really specific questions and pull details out of them. I expected more from the conceire desk-they really did not have a lot of information regarding tours at all. The roof top lounge was beautiful but we did not eat there. The prices were quite high and during our entire stay I only saw one couple dining. We enjoyed the view on several occasions. The hotel could encourage people to eat there by offering reasonable deals or even a happy hour. Overall I would reccommend this hotel to people, good location and comfortable. Ciao!

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Find the Supermarkets and stock up on water and other snack items. We brought nalgene bottles from home and filled them each morning.

Close to the Villa Borghese

We had a little snafu with our flight back to the states and had to spend an additional night in Rome. I had my secretary get on Expedia and book the Savoy because it was such a great rate. We wanted to be near the Villa Borghese because my grandson wanted to play in the park. The hotel was really beautiful, ideally located and affordable. The rooms were not recently redecorated but they were very comfortable. Dinner at the hotel restaurant was delightful. It is on the rooftop of the hotel and has a wonderful view of the city. We were too tired to go out for dinner and the hotel restaurant was a great alternative (I usually hate hotel restaurants). Breakfast was included in the cost of the room and it was quite nice.

Great location

Hotel is a very nice location, the staff is helpful and cordial. Not what one expects of a 4 star in the US, but for Europe is adequate.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Take trips with local guides to avoid long lines, for example the Colosseum offers guided tours for only a few Euros more that the entrance fee with the tour included and you will save at least one hour of your day.

Wanna go back

From the minute I arrived at the Savoy Hotel, I was impressed. I expected a small, European style room, but instead I found everything I needed. I paid a little bit more for the deluxe room and it was worth having the space since I shared the room with a friend. The price was right and the location was excellent. The hotel is close to the Metro and within walking distance of the Spanish Steps. Although getting to other famous landmarks required transportation it was easy. I preferred this part of the city to the area around Termini.

Traveler's tip on dining

While the dollar is topsy turvy, during the day eat paninis and caprese sandwiches to tide you over. Meals can be expensive so save up for a night out here and there. Having cocktails is pricey! Stick with wine and beer.

Great staff and a good bargain

The hotel has a great location and a uniformly great staff that was helpful, cheerful and fun. The room had more than sufficient space, was clean and airy and its furnishings were better than we would have expected for the bargain price we paid. All in all, we were pretty satisfied with what we got--and we weren’t expecting the Eden or De Russe.

Excellent Hotel

a very nice 4 star hotel right off Via Veneto. Excellent service, the staff was helpful (except one night guy that was little lazy), breakfast was adequate, walking distance from Barbarini train station. Lots of restaurants and cafes all around. The only downside is that the area where the hotel is located is up on a hill, which makes it tiresome to get to after a long day of walking around Rome. But its located on Via Veneto, which is equivalent to New York’s 5th Ave.

Decent Hotel in Via Veneto Area

The staff was extremely accomodating and professional. We stayed in a triple room, the size was good. The bathroom was really nicely renovated and big. Others in our party booked a double superior and had the same experience. Someone in our party was booked in the double plus room. This was smaller, though not unmanageable. However, the bathroom was small. Also, the room itself needed renovation. The furniture was missing handles, the walls were scuffed up. Even so, it wasn’t terrible considering how much less it cost. There is one more room size, the double standard. These are closets - beware. The cold breakfast offerings were more than sufficient - cereals, fruit, pastry, cheese, yogurt, etc. The hot breakfast buffet is unappealing. The roof deck is impressive - well furnished and pretty views. Overall, if you like to get breakfast included, this hotel is decent. If you don’t care about breakfast, you could stay in finer hotels, for about the same price as the double superior rooms and get additional ammenities and services of a 5 star hotel.

Traveler's tip on dining

There are plenty of bars in the neighborhood for pastry, panini, gelati, or drinks. These are great for quick, tasty, cheap lunches or after dinner drinks and dessert. Take a panini "to go" and eat it in Villa Borghese. If you don’t utilize this magnificent park, you are missing out on one of the best features of this neighborhood. My young children love it, too.

There are Better for Less Money

Laundry service was a problem. I checked in at four o’clock and was told the laundry service had left of the day. The staff said they could not press a suit in less than 24 hours. The room had torn carpet and beat up furniture.

Traveler's tip for business travelers

The location is the only thing this place has going for it.

Disappointed

I anticipated a wonderful quaint hotel. Although the hotel itself was lovely our room was very disappointing. Although it looked clean it had a very musty smell to it. I had expected a nicer experience.

We were pleased.

Very convenient location in safe, upscale part of city. Good restaurants, newstand, ATMs, shops very close by. Quick access to taxis and buses (a "hop on, hop off" tour bus stops right in front). Hotel was old but well maintained. Room was small (think NYC), but clean. Despite proximity to busy Via Veneto, hotel was quiet. Staff was very helpful. Hotel restaurant was good, but not great (prices were fair and staff gracious), and the view from the top was very nice as the sun was going down. We would stay there again.

Size Matters

Afer they moved us from a standard room which was much too small to another standard room which was adequate in size, we were pleased with our stay. We glimpsed some of the more expensive accomodations and they were subatantially nicer than the entry level rooms. Location was good and whatever service we required was excellent.

Traveler's tip on dining

Harry’s Bar on V. Veneto and La Tavernetta, both nearby, were both great. Afternoon lunch or drinks from the terrace of the Splendide’s restaurant on Via Pinciana or from the terrace of Casina Valadier, in Villa Borghese, make for spectacular views.

Would not recommend

We stayed at the Hotel Savoy in April 2008. The bed was so hard it was like sleeping on the ground. I asked for a mattress change twice and it was never done. The location is good but there are other hotels in the area that I would recommend before I stayed at this property. The staff was not very friendly.

We loved this hotel and can’t wait to go back to it.

The hotel was wonderful. The staff was very friendly. The breakfast was also very good. We stayed in the hotel for 10 days and the quality of the staff and the cleanliness of the hotel were top notch every day. I would definitely recommend this hotel. It is also located in a great place. We were able to walk to many local attractions.

Dolce Vita at the Savoy

I love the Savoy. Perfect location within walking distance to everything. Classy, safe neighborhood, very friendly and helpful staff, terrific breakfast and enchanting rooftop bar. We travel to Rome a lot and will stay here on all future trips.

Traveler's tip on dining

For an inexpensive lunch or dinner try the Gran Cafe on Via Veneto, reasonable prices, great waiters and the best people watching in Rome.

Great Location

The service was excellent. The continental breakfast was better than good. The room was adequate being a little small for 3 people. But the best part was the location. We were able to walk almost everywhere and metro was close for those places, like the Vatican that we wanted a ride. I would definitely go back.
