Very large room in great location
Our room was very large although somewhat dated. The hotel was undergoing a renovation which I would not have known about if I had not wandered on my floor and saw half of it under construction. Although the hotel was "full," I am sure not having all the rooms available is why it felt so empty. All the staff went out of their way to be helpful, and everything we needed was at the hotel - bikes to getting on canal boats. Breakfast which was included with our room was wonderful - even by American standards. We were very pleased with the property and would stay here again. Location was perfect!

Very good beds, very good breakfest
I liked the hotel, old time elegance although it needs some updates in the rooms. The bathrooms are new, remodeled. Good location. Good restaurant close by, called Captain Zeppo. I liked the Amstel hotel also (from the outside from the main lobby).

frail but still stylish...
The hotel is Europe itself: aging, weighted down with tradition, a bit frail at the edges, but still full of style and tradition! The location is wonderful (at the heart of the city) but avoid the expensive and paltry breakfast. The staff are very nice and helpful.
Traveler's tip on dining
For a restaurant near (a few hundred yards) the hotel that reflects the Dutch Indonesian roots look up Indrapura. Also, make sure you do not miss a night of Opera right next to the Hotel!
