One of the Best Places to Stay in Durango

We just returned from Durango, Colorado and had a great stay at the Doubletree. The Doubletree is in our opinion one of the nicest hotels in the area. The location can’t be beat--with downtown only several blocks away it’s just a short walk to restaurants, breweries, shopping, and the famous train. It’s located right on the east side of the Animas River right next to a fantastic walking and bicycle path that runs north or south on the river--so plenty of opportunity to excercise or enjoy the weather. The hotel has it’s own bar and a seperate restaurant just in case you want to hang out there and the staff is very friendly and helpful. They also have a fitness room and small indoor pool which is also a plus. We recommend this hotel and will definitely be back!

Durango is a great trip for all seasons--skiing in the winter, fishing and rafting in the spring thru fall.

Great location!

The staff was very friendly, the room was clean and comfortable, great view of the Animas River. It is within walking distance to "downtown" Durango for shopping and dining. We will definitely stay here again!

A Good Place to Stay

A good place to stay in Durango. Convenient walk to Main Street shops and restaurants. Pleasant staff. River walking path right next to the hotel. If you want atmosphere, get a drink in one of the old hotels on Main Street but stay here for a comfortable, modern room and shower!

Right on the river

The view of the river from our balcony was stunning. The sounds from the river will lull you to sleep at night. Wonderfully accommodating staff. Very nice workout facility for the size. We will be back.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Check out the Henry Strater Theater on Main. Reasonable young talent and the dinner special at the Mahogany Grill is a bargain when combined with your ticket. A day-trip to Mesa Verde is well worth the effort.

Can’t wait to go back.

Everything was fantastic with the exception of Housekeeping. I had to call two seperate days to get fresh drinking glasses and shampoo for our room. The cleaning lady didn’t restock us everyday. Otherwise the hotel was great and I would go back in a minute.

Stay on the river...

We had a river view room with a small balcony. The room was spotless, decorated nicely, and had a coffee maker. It’s just a short walk into town, and right next to a grocery store for those last-minute items. Would definitely stay there again, especially if you book early and get a good deal.

DoubleTree Durango

Comfy, lovely balconies, quiet, good bed. The other thing is that they ask that you leave towels on racks if you will use again....BUT there are no racks, just one hook on door back - not enough hanging space for more than one towel.

Always a great place to stay in Durango!

I have made many trips to the Durango area to visit our local office there. I will always stay at the DoubleTree there. The rooms are always clean and ready to accept me as a guest, the staff is friendly and professional and willing to accomodate any request. I have never had a bad experience with the hotel, the room, the restaurants or any facet of the facility!

Probably best newer hotel in Durango

We were given a Riverview room which was nice and not expected since Expedia had a special low rate on this hotel and the place was full. Located right at the corner of the historic district and a couple of blocks from the steam railroad so you could hear the whistle. Marvelously comfy beds. This was a very upscale hotel for the price.

Traveler's tip on dining

Excellent coffee at the Durango Coffee Company . Enjoyed the Steamworks Brewery restaurant. Nice atmosphere and good food and beer altho not at the actual brewery.

Comfortable and Convenient Hotel

We were very pleased with the Doubletree Hotel Durango. Our room, which was a good size standard king, had a comfy bed, a nice remodeled bathroom, and good towel linens. Location of the hotel was also very convenient to downtown and situated right on the Animas River. A walking/biking path along the river was right outside the back of the hotel. There was also a patio restaurant located on the river too. We had a city view room and would recommend a river view room with a balcony as an extra treat.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Do not miss the (2)excellent shows at the Diamond Circle Theater, alternating nightly, at their new downtown location, the Durango Center for the Performing Arts. A very talented group of actors provide laughter and fun for the whole family. Be sure to take advantage of all the wonderful outdoor activities such as hiking, biking and river rafting.

Relaxing and Beautiful!

We just got back from a week at this hotel. It was fabulous! We would definitely stay there again next year! We would highly recommend this hotel for the beauty, relaxing atmosphere, cleanliness and location. Our room was on the 3rd floor overlooking the river with a balcony to sit on and relax while listening to the sounds of rushing water while looking at the mountains, watching the many river rafters, bicyclers, runners and people walking their pets along the paved sidewalk that follows the river for 7 miles. Next door to our favorite coffee shop, you can rent bikes for either 1/2 of 1 full day. A BMX bike place is free at one end of the trail. Our kids LOVED that!! There are many places to play along the river. You can walk to the shopping areas and resturants. A grocery store is next door. They have 2 washers and dryers for guest laundry or the laundry mat is down the street. The staff is perfect and VERY helpful! The housekeeping staff is so patient and they do a great job! The place is so quiet and restful.

Traveler's tip on dining

The only drawback is the resturant. It is not bad, just mediocre and overpriced for the quality. There are better places to eat 2 blocks away and you can walk! One nignt we had a pizza delivered to the room for our lazy/tired/wornout teenagers while we went to a fancy resturant. We were not disappointed in the food anywhere in town. At the Ore House, our steaks were perfect and the salad bar was fresh and yummy!

Can’t beat listening to the river rush by

This was our 2nd time staying at the Doubletree and were once again satisfied with the choice. The beds are so comfortable and being on the river side, we enjoyed opening the balcony door to listen to the river all night. Was the perfect lullaby music to sleep by. The Neutrogena bath products and ample supply of thick fluffy towels are much appreciated.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Don’t neglect using and enjoying the paved 5 mile Animas river trail. Such a beautiful way to get in some exercise or just enjoy the natural beauty of this place.
