Hanoi Camelia Hotel
We didnt actually end up at the hotel wed booked through Expedia because when we got there - despite the fact that it wasnt late into the night - they told us they were fully booked. Apologising profusely they put us in a taxi to another hotel they owned - Hotel Camelia - which was just around the road. No complaints there, great staff, very friendly, breakfast was ok and we booked a tour to Halong Bay with them. The only problem was that twice, during both of the nights we were there, there were electricity blackouts. We were told that it wasnt unusual - too many people using their air conditioners on hot humid nights. We regarded it as little more than a bit of a nuisance and it certainly didnt effect our experience really.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Go to Hoan Kiem Lake any morning before 6am - practise Tai Chi with the locals. Visit the Metropole Hotel - a beautiful French colonial hotel built in 1901 - which has a history of welcoming heads of state and playwrights.
