perfectly servicable hotel in a good location
The Carolina is great! Good service, good breakfast, pleasant staff. The neighborhood can be a bit loud, but it’s very centrally located, so that’s the trade off to expect. Rooms are small, clean, everything you need for a great stay in Athens.

Simple
Simple hotel but very decent. The room was clean and the front desk was very helpful. The bed was a little bit short so anybody over 5’11" would be uncomfortable. The cable had one only one English speaking channel. Good and safe location.

Secret Bargain
The puzzler is that the Carolina is rated at only two stars. It’s located just steps from the Plaka - well south of the Omonia and Exarchia neighborhoods that I was advised to avoid. Clean, comfy room, good breakfast, free WiFi (they give you the password), and even a roof terrace to enjoy ouzo and fruit at sunset.
