Not that convenient to Manhattan

I really liked the hotel but not if you’re going to have fun in Manhattan and isn’t driving. I chose to stay at this hotel because I was told it was convenient to Manhattan by the train. What everyone failed to tell me that I would have to wait 10-15 minutes for the hotel shuttle to leave for the airport, then I would have to wait 20 minutes for the 62 bus to leave from the airport to Penn Station(Newark) unless I lucked up and caught it. Once I got to Penn Station, if a train wasn’t coming, I had to wait another 20 minutes for the train, not to mention the transfer from one train to another to get to 33rd street near Times Square. IT was a nightmare. If you want to stay in Newark for cheaper, then stay at the Hilton as it’s right next to the train station. It’ll save a lot of money, time, and stress. If you are driving, it’s $23 a night to park at the Crowne Plaza so consider that but if you are staying in Newark and not planning on visiting Manhattan, then it’s a good hotel to stay in. If you have to eat in the restaurant inside the hotel, I would suggest only the Quesadillas or the Chicken Wings. Everything else taste like it came out of a box.

Nice weekend stay

Location is difficult to get to, the area is not especially nice. The room was clean, staff helpful and service prompt. Parking was a disaster as there are apparently two version, one for hotel and one for airport/shuttle. I paid for hotel parking but it turned out we parked in the other, so had to pay TWICE. Wireless internet signal was weak on the 9th floor where we were and it was a bit slow. Shuttle service to airport was prompt and drivers friendly. Overall, even with the minuses, I would stay again mostly because I would know what to expect.

Disappointed.

The hotel itself was okay, clean but not up to the standards of other Crown Point hotels. Some of the elevators were either broken or left out of service. The shuttle service was slower than the every 20 minutes advertised. The purpose of the trip was to attend a football game at nearby Giants stadium and I was very disappointed when I was charged $20.00 to check our bags while attending the game. I would never stay at or recommend this hotel to anyone.

Good Stay

Good deal and work the system. We wanted to visit NY and used their transport to Penn Station. Took the train back to Newark Airport and the airport shuttle back to the hotel. Shuttle driver helpfull and friendly. Staff friendly and helpfull. TRY THE RESTURANT. Fodd is excellent and fairly priced. Nice bar downstairs. Great visit overall and definate price savings fromstaing in NY.

I enjoyed my stay very much!

The hotel and staff were great and very accommodating. I was upgraded and had the most comfortable bed. They have a 24 hour deli/coffee shop and staff was very nice there too. This was my first time staying in Newark as I usually stay in the city but I would definitely stay at the Crowne Plaza again.

It would be nice if the shuttle service to Penn Station was more frequent,

Need to be close the airport?

In general terms the Crowne Plaza was good and convenient to be close Newark International to take flights to continue vacations plan (Buffalo-Niagara- Washington) D.C.) To get Manhattan was a litlle expensive each way by train from Elizabeth to New York Penn Station, so next time in NYC its a matter to be analized. But it was a nice experience to be in this part of the USA. Shuttle service to the airport and viceversa was very good.

Times square area was very active and plenty of people. Walking by through Manhattan streets at night was confortable and feel secure.

OK FOR A NIGHT!

THE ROOM WAS CLEAN AND COMFORTABLE BUT THE LOCATION WAS NOT SO GOOD. SHUTTLE TO PENN STATION WAS ONLY TWICE A DAY 10:30 A.M. AND 3:00 P.M. I WOULD HAVE LIKED IT TO RUN MORE OFTEN THAN THAT.

Inexpensive alternative to Manhattan

I spent 3 nights in this hotel for the purpose of an inexpensive alternative to the pricey Manhattan hotels. We flew into Newark airport and took the hotel shuttle to the hotel (when arriving, make sure you get airtran to P4... that is where all the hotels pick up). Shuttle was very prompt every time we used it. There are a few ways to get into Manhattan from hotel. The first way (what we did) is simply to take the NJ transit regular city bus. It is a 5 minute walk to the bus stop right around the corner from hotel. runs every hour, and costs just 5.25 each way. Check NJ transit site for Bus number 112 to new york... The bus Goes directly to the port authority in New York. It is about 20 minute ride, if there isnt bad traffic. If you do not want to take chances with traffic, you can take the hotel shuttle back to the airport and take a train into Manhattan. This will cost more, but you wouldnt have to worry about traffic in the Lincoln tunnel. The bus worked great for us, and I would not have been able to afford to go to New York otherwise. You cant even stay in a Hostel in new york for this price, and the hotel is very nice and clean, with comfortable bedding. Plus, being so close to airport you also avoid all the expense of getting to New York airports from Manhattan and it is a 5 to 10 minute ride at most to the Newark airport from hotel. I am very picky about hotels, particularly cleanliness, and this hotel was very good.

Great Hotel but location not impressive

The hotel was wonderful and staff was great. Exercise room and pool great. They do have a nice "shop" where you can buy fresh coffee, pastries, snacks, and sandwiches so you don’t have to venture outside of the hotel. The hotel is surrounded by a gated fence with 24 hour security.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

I wouldn’t recommend walking around outside of the grounds or attempt to cross the street to the liquor store. The traffic was insane! It was also a maze to drive to the hotel. Best if cab can take you there. I would recommend dining at Tony DeCanica’s in Elizabeth if you love Portuguese food. Highly recommend it!!

Second Time A Crowne Plaza Has Disappointed Me

There was no room service menu in my room and even when I requested one for the second time, it took almost half an hour for the staff to find one which meant I had about three minutes to make my selection before they stopped taking room service orders at 11pm. The bench in the room for sitting on while you dressed was horribly stained. Breakfast was an experience best skipped. I’ve never had such unappetizing bacon in my life, the eggs were cold, and the home fries inedible. The "free" wi-fi only worked once as the signal strength wasn’t strong enough to register on my laptop. I travel to NY at least once a year for meetings so I’m always on the look out for good deals. As far as deals go, this one wasn’t worth the savings. I’ll pay more and stay someplace else the next time I’m in the area on business.

Great Hotel to stay at.

The staff was excellent and helped me out when I needed anything. Thanks Lawrence for all your help. The Room was good and I had a great business/etc trip.

Traveler's tip

They do not have frigs in room but you can purchase a cheap cooler from Wal-Mart etc. Put ice in it to keep your water, cold food etc.

Spacious room, new LCD TV

Room was spacious, and the room had a big LCD TV. Free shuttle to airport (24 hours) and NJ Penn Station (1x or 2x a day).

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Cheapest way into New York is to take the free hotel shuttle to the airport, then take NJ Transit Bus #62 to NJ Penn Station, then ake PATH train into NY. Total cost is a little over $3. From the airport, bus or train directly to New York can cost $15.

A Very Good Hotel

We enjoyed our 3 day stay at this hotel. It was clean, staff courteous. Frequent shuttles to airport, but could add another trip to Penn Station. The only negative is location. It’s in a mostly industral area.

For one night, it is fine....

I did a ton of research as this trip was to celebrate my husband turning 40. I THOUGHT I was making a good decision to stay in Jersey and do the commute to Manhattan....WRONG! The hotel was ok but not what you’d expect from a CP hotel. Next time, I will pay extra and stay in the city. This hotel wasn’t worth the savings.

Traveler's tip on dining

Be forewarned: as others commented, there are no dining options (unless you like Perkins) near the hotel.

Excellent quality for a very reasonable price. Wow!

I was pleasantly surprised to find a Hotel that that is updated, clean and elegant for for this price. In traffic, the distance form NYC might be a little long but ask the staff for the best travel times and you will find this a great place for local attractions and for NYC.

Enjoyed my visit

I stayed for 4 days at this hotel and it was great. the staff are professioaly friendly. the seen and not heard and only spoken when spoken to types. they are there to meet your needs and help you when you need it but other wise leave you alone. the front desk staff was friendly and helpfull. there is a 24 hr deli in the hotel with excellent food. they have a hot menu in the deli and the veggi pizza was great. there is transportation to and from ewr airport 24 hrs a day. to get to New york city round trip it is about 35.00 a day as you take the hotel shutle to ewr then the air tram to to a railstation that will take you to penn station in new york. the hotel was very clean. the maid service was excellent. my room was cleand every day and fresh linnens were stocked. the hotel has a little area for smokers that is easily seen through windows by the front desk and is well lit at night. i loved my stay here and will tell all my friends and family about it. i look forward to staying agin next year.

Won’t make this mistake again

This was supposed to be a non-smoking room and ours had an overpowering smell of cigarettes. We were switched to a smaller room and not offered a rate reduction. Help was rude. Called the front desk and asked for more coffee, cream and sugar and were sent up 2 of each. When asking for more, we were told we would have to come down and get our own. Free shuttle to airport was nice but the information about the hotel led us to believe there was also a free shuttle to the train station. It ran only twice daily: at 10:30 am and 3:30 pm and would not give you a ride back to the hotel from the train station.

Good location near airport and close to public transport to NYC

Chose this hotel as it was near airport with shuttle service. Prices way more reasonable then in NYC. Used public transportation for sightseeing trips to NYC. Overall, pleased with hotel and its amenities, restaurants etc. Beware that cost for parking (if you have rental car or guest visiting) is $23/per day. Had problem with billing as was charged by both Expedia and Crown Plaza. Was resolved but took 8 days for refund from the hotel.

Very nice

Hotel was very nice and getting to the city was easy. The free shuttle was great. Room servace was fast and very good. Room was nice Internet worked great. Beds were very nice my wife wanted to take one home with us.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Take the free shuttle to the airport and take the train to NY Penn station for $15 each person each way. Or take a bus to Newark Penn station then train to NY Penn station and save almost $10 each person each way..

Very convenient location

The hotel is a 10-15min shuttle ride from Newark International Airport. From The airport you can take the bus or AirTrain to Pen Station, allowing for easy access to New York and other cities. The only issue we had was coming back late one night and waiting 2hrs for the shuttle at the airport in 40 degree weather, before we managed to get a ride with another hotel’s shuttle. The shuttle is supposed to be 24/7, leaving every 20min, but that night someone must not have known about the hotel’s policy. The next morning we reported this lapse to the manager, who apologized and would investigate. He offered us a complementary breakfast or lunch for our troubles. Despite this hiccup, we will gladly stay at the Elizabeth/Newark International Airport Crown Plaza if we have to go to that area again.

Fantastic Hotel Stay...

The staff was friendly and very helpful. The hotel clean, up to date with a cafe that served "To die for" cheese cake. The Godiva chocolate cheese cake was especially delicious.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Make sure to request a cheat sheet on ways to travel into NY. Very easy to manage and very cost effective.
