Nice

We were very pleased with our room and the overall service at the hotel. It was our honeymoon and we were very well taken care of.

Comfortable, central hotel

The hotel is very centrally located, though it is not easy to get to by car. My room was spacious and comfortable. The staff were helpful.

Not what I expected..not impressed

This hotel is listed as a 4 1/2 star. In my opinion, it is maybe a 3 star. The halls are dingy and the carpets are dirty, the room has cracked walls and the bathroom has old oaneled ceilings. Just take me word, I warned you, it’s not going to be what you expect it to be. If you go there, keeping in mind that this is a 3 star hotel, then you would probably be fine with it. But I had 4 1/2 star expectations and was disappointed. I tried to get my money back to go somewhere else but was unable to. I called the front desk, they asked what was wrong, and I replied, the quality of the hotel. They upgraded me to a bigger room, but it was just bigger, the quality was no different. Afterall, it is still the same hotel.

Satisfied customer

My sister and i were pleased with the hotel. It’s in a central location, and in walking distance to all popular spots. My only complaint would be in regard to noise... Not sure if the walls were on the thin side, or if the family in the room next to ours was exceptionally loud...

Great location, needs refitted

The Grand Mercure is ideally located with shops, public transport, a post office, restaurants and tourist attractions all within easy walking distance. The paintwork, carpets and towels were all rather worn and marked, the shower required the hot and cold taps to be manually balanced, and overall the hotel looked like it was overdue for a re-fit.

Great Location. Amazing concierge staff.

The Front Desk and Concierge staff went above and beyond when we needed directions. Google map, print outs, highlighted routes... the hospitality blew me away. I work in the hospitality industry so I have high expectations; my expectations were exceeded.

Traveler's tip

If I only had one suggestion to make, knowledge of the fact that Swanston Street (st. of hotel location) was not accessible to vehicles would’ve helped. Perhaps I was told and never paid attention. However, it does just add to the good stories to tell of our trip... Circling our hotel for about forty minutes trying to figure out how to turn and where to turn in Melbourne?! It was pretty funny, especially once we got on Swanston and were told we couldn’t drive there.
