Its a go
I previously lived in Tuscaloosa and have to admit that I was feeling a little iffy about staying right in front of the WalMart and in the general Skyland Ave. area. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is clean and comfortable. The accommodations are not deluxe by any means, but certainly very acceptable - particularly for the price point. The area felt safe. Staff were friendly. Its a go!
Traveler's tip on dining
There is a newer Mexican restaurant in the shopping plaza across from the McFarland Mall called The Blue Iguana. Neat place with a nice atmosphere and good food.

Will definitely stay again!
Stayed in this hotel while moving my son into the University of Alabama. This is very sufficient if you just want a clean, economical place to sleep. Room was large, clean, and included a small refrigerator and microwave. A/C worked VERY well. It was the stand-alone type by the window, which you can adjust to meet your needs. Continental breakfast was not elaborate but fine if you just want to grab coffee and a muffin, bagel, cereal, etc. The GM was as the desk and was always helpful with a great attitude. We had stayed at the Hotel Capstone previously, and for the rate difference and quality of the Days Inn, I will stay at the Days Inn everytime.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
There are more luxurious hotels in the area, but if you are just looking for a place to sleep for the price the Days Inn is a great option. Lots of restaurants and shopping very close.
