Nice place to relax
I enjoyed the hotel and its lovely public spaces. Staff was always friendly, but didn’t go out of their way to recommend any restaurants, even when asked. One receptionist was always busy on the phone with her friends, and they often closed and locked the front door so I had to knock to get back in. The rooms were nice, the bed was super comfortable, the pool was just big enough to do a few laps, breakfast was delicious and the waiter was attentive and helpful. The hotel location was great and I enjoyed my time there. But I could have done without the reconstruction in one large reception room and getting locked out each time I went out.

Cartagena Hideaway
My husband and I were extremely pleased with El Marques. The staff was very courteous and went above and beyond to take care of our needs. They only have 8 rooms, so you are treated like a guest. Extremely Convenient location. Great Pool. Worth the splurge.
San Pedro’s restaurant across from the church has excellent service. Dine outside.

Did not want to leave
The staff at this hotel is excellent! They really went out of their way to make sure we were satisfied with every aspect of our stay. When we arrived in Cartagena there was no running water throughout most of the city including in our room. The staff graciously allowed us to shower in a suite located in the ground floor since the main floor did have running water. Alberto was especially helpful throughout our stay. If I have the pleasure of returning to Cartagena I would definitely stay here again.
Traveler's tip on shopping
If you decide to buy from the many, many vendors that literally line the streets get ready to bargain. If they know you are a tourist they will come up with some ridiculous price. My boyfriend was able to get things for less than half of the original price given to us. They are willing to settle on a lower price than have you walk away and buy from someone else
