Pleasant surprise
Book this hotel based on the reviews and was pleasantly surprised. On the beach, on the boardwalk, nice facilities and rooms. My only problem was that the staff, while being extremely courteous, was less than helpful and had a bit of an attitude when asked about taxis, directions, etc.

Average hotel on beach near town - not 4 stars, needs updates
A stranger recommended this hotel to us and said it was a nice 4 star hotel, on the beach and walking distance to town. We are in our 30s and it seemed like we were visiting a retirement village, with decor to match the guests. Timewarped common areas, especially dining area. Our room was clean and it was nice to be on the beach, but the hotel (at least in the main bldg) needs an update. I wouldve preferred a hotel that was more happening with a better bar and restaurant.
Traveler's tip on nightlife
Puerte Banus was very lively and even though everyone kept warning us that dining was extremely expensive, all the restaurants post their menus with prices - and the Italian place we visited was very reasonable and good.

Right on the water
This is a great place to stay in if you like to be right on the beach, and still have the poolside service of your hotel. The outdoor garden area is perfect for spending time in the sun. Being on the promenade makes it easy to walk to the many nearby restaurants. Plus, you can walk out the other side of the hotel and be in the Old Town area.
Traveler's tip on dining
We ate dinner two nights in a row at garum, a great restaurant down the promenade. If youre wiling to walk a little bit, it is well worth it - great food, great view, and wonderful service from the waitstaff and the owner.
