Can’t wait to go back

I think its a great hotel but the caipirinha in the lobby bar is better that the terrace bar. And when I called to reservation phone (number 9 from the lobby) nobody answer.

Not The Best!

No hot water for 2 days and no explanation given. Hotel Rep acted like he did not understand English when I had asked for a refund since we had arrived a day late. Room smelled a little moldly.

No Bad

Very Nice Hotel. We where not in one of the renovated rooms, but we had a high floor and great view. Very friendly staff, Great Location.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

The exchange rate at the hotel was really good, much better than the Amex office where i changed in NY. Call ahead before changing money.

views...

I went several times in the Othon palace...BUT...you must book a room above the 21th level...the other are in poor state with old furnitures...Sometimes, you book a room with an ocean view but you discover that its impossible to get a front view and only side view are available...bad surprise even you have some good views on the two sides of the hotel...Despite this, when you get a room with a fine view...they are realy the best views of Copacabana : magic ! It is why I continue to stay in this hotel...

Don’t Stay Here; Its Horrible

Once you get past the lobby, this hotel is pure Hell. Its 90 degrees and extremely humid, but there is no working air condition in my creepy roach infested room.

Not a good hotel

Despite the excellent view out of the balcony into the ocean, the suite itself is probably one of the least attractive rooms I have stayed in the city. The decor is probably some 15 years old, with a lot of humidity trapped into the carpets and even ants all over the room. The location of the hotel is superb, too bad the hotel itself relies solely on its location. For the same cost, I’d suggest some of the nearby hotels by the major chains. Service also wasn’t particularly good.

Okay to stay

The hotel is not bad if you just satified with a little less. The problem i did night like is as an member of hotel you should be able to use the fitness center at no cost they wanted $20 per day wich i believe is total wrong. other than if you want to save money this is not a bad hotel with oceanfront a nice view from our balcony.

Great location but hotel is a bit outdated

Is it all about location, location and location? If the answer is yes, then this hotel is for you. It is located right across Copacabana beach and within walking distance of several places to eat. The hotel itself looks great at the lobby but once you get to your room, you’ll realize how outdated this place is. The bed made a squeaking noise every time I moved and the bathtub needed to be replaced. The carpet was old. If you overlook all those things, I must say that I had a great view of Copacabana and that made me forget about the imperfections of the room. If I were to return to Rio, I may return to this place only because of the location.

Great location, older hotel

This was my third trip to Rio. The hotel is in a great location for the Copacabana area. My room faced the ocean and I really enjoyed the view. The hotel is older and it shows. The rooms are out dated and are beginning to show their age. The air conditioning works but it doesn’t cool enough to meet most "American" standards. This is really only an issue if you plan on visiting Jan - Feb (the height of summer). I was there on New Year’s Eve and I was impressed by the hotel security, which being in Rio is very important to have. Considering that most of the hotels on Copabana are older, this is probably one of the nicer ones. If you want luxury or "newness", try other areas like Ipanema or Barra.

Traveler's tip on shopping

I’ve found the best shopping (boutiques and mall shops) is in Leblon/Impanema. The area is safe enought to wander the streets looking for boutiques. Leblon is the neighborhood next to Impanema. The Leblon Shopping is a good mall and there are several other shops surrounding it. To be able to walk the streets of Rio with packages is very rare so Leblon is a special place. It is also one of the best places for restaurants.

Rio Orthon Palace, not a Palace.

We stay for two nights, because we can’t doit sooner. We could not sleep for the noise. Live and dead roaches. Staff did nothing about it.
