royal marine hotel
Overall our stay was great. The rooms were quite comfortable. There seemed to be some staffing issues in the bar; we were fine ,yet there were some guest visibly upset with the service. The location is nice with good access to public transportation. Watch out for the room extras, I was charged over 12 euro for one phone call to a local mobile phone that coast one euro from a pay phone.
If renting a car (which I would recommend, the people on the tour buses didnt look that happy) research your insurance options, The insurance through the rental agancy was quite expensive, nearly three times the cost ot the automobile itself.

Excellent choice for a "slightly outside the city center" vacation
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Royal Marine Hotel for one week. We had both previously traveled to Ireland and while we were looking forward to seeing a lot of Dublin, we wanted a quieter atmosphere. This hotel was perfect. The Dun Laoghaire area is beautiful with a fair amount of history and a pleasant maritime feel. The trains run conveniently to the city center often. Many of our fellow quests appeared to be traveling for business but we found the hotel perfect for a leisurely stay.

Perfect except for the noise
This hotel is in a great location and the executive suites are spacious, newly renovated and mine had a view of the water. The only drawback is that there is virtually no sound proofing in the hotel - odd, given that the section I was in is clearly new construction. You can hear every word anyone says in the hall, the crying baby down the hall, the person next door flushing the toilet etc. If they fixed that - it would be perfect.
