Fantastic B&B
This was a great B&B (Guesthouse) stay. They have a good breakfast, a nice outdoor patio, and the rooms are extremely clean. I must say that the hotel clerk (Jessica) was the best hotel clerk I have ever seen in my 35 years of travelling world wide. I have never met anyone so accommodating and so courteous.

Make sure you know what youre getting into
We arrived at the Gabriel House, a lovingly-restored B&B, after a long drive from Galway. It is situated on a hillside overlooking Kent Station and Horgans Quay. Drivers must do a crazy zig-zag to enter their driveway, and the parking lot is steeply pitched toward the building. Parking itself is free, a welcome bonus. More than anything else, the approach of this establishment is somewhere between B&B and hostel. While our room was modern, with a modest flat-screen TV mounted high on the wall, the floor space was overwhelmed by the double (full) bed, a small armchair, and a tiny nightstand. That was the entire contents of the room--no closet, no suitcase stand, and almost no room to walk around our suitcases. The bathroom was quite roomy by comparison, with a modern shower that was wheelchair accessible. This last point is perplexing, because the room itself is not accessible, nor is any room in the entire establishment. We considered ourselves fortunate to be located on the lower floor, instead of the third floor! Breakfast was a casual affair. It was served continuously from 7:30 to 10 a.m., and hot food was cooked to order. The breakfast room was large and pleasant, and we could watch trains and rowing crews while we made our plans for the day. This B&B is not suitable for all comers--our room was utilitarian, small, and had all the charm of a community rehab center--but if you are fit, are traveling lightly, and willing to adventure a bit, it may be your cup of tea.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Its just a short walk down N Summer Hill St to the vibrant downtown shopping district. Plenty of pubs and restaurants there as well, including other cuisines such as Italian and Indian in case youd like a break from lamb stew!

Very nice staff!
The breakfast was good and the staff were very nice. We had two young children with us and they were very nice to all of us. I would definitely stay there again.
Traveler's tip
The bus stop is about a five minute walk from the hotel and can take you all over cork county from there if you do not want to drive. You can easily get to Blarney Castle or Kinsale on the bus.
