Very Nice Grounds

We arrived in the dark and we were initially dissapointed due to the fact that it looked like a scout camp The rooms were attached in a row Very unappealing at first. However when we woke up and saw the property we were thrilled The grounds are beautiful!! The pool was closed for repair and we were unhappy but when we went to the front desk to tell them we were unhappy with the room a and the pool we were immediately upgraded to a suite with a fireplace!! It was fabulous!! Eating here was way too expensive!Drinks too much also Overall though great!! Great service!!!

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

The hiking here and the lakes are unbelievable! Walking on the propety is beautiful! Rent a bike! Ride to the lakes! Rent in town though. Rentals at the hotel are very expensive

Beautiful property, Rooms very unimpressive

Property is beautiful, restaurants and service excellent. However - rooms small, no AC (though mostly not needed), bathroom very tiny and no one cleans the Elk dung on walking paths. Even with several complaints from several different guests - Elk dung is obviously considered part of the "experience" - not for me.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Bike rental at the property is expensive - make sure you ask the cost.

Excellent restaurants

The room was not so superior but comfortable enough. The best things in the hotel is restaurants. There is an excellent french style restaurant, Sushi bar, a bar with billiards and darts. There are a lot of different styles funs and we enjoyed very much.

Pricey and in need of some maintainence.

There aren’t a lot of hotel choices around Jasper and the Jasper Park Lodge’s best feature is the quiet location on a lake just outside of town. The motels/hotels on the main street in Jasper seem over populated with tour buses so it’s nice not to stay right in town. The Jasper Park Lodge is getting a little frayed on the edges and some of the cabins could benefit from updating and a new coat of stain or paint. Our front porch was littered with leaves and had some standing water on it due to the recent rainfall. The good thing about the JPL is that they will go out of the way to make things right, so if things aren’t up to snuff, call the front desk.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Definately, visit Maligne Canyon and Maligne Lake. The 90 minute tour boat out to Spirit Island on a clear day is well worth the cost.

Dated

This hotel is dated and does not compare with its sister Fairmont hotels at Lake Louise and Banff. It needs serious updating.

Smiles all over the place. Idyllic location, peace and quiet

Splendid location with views over the Rockies. Challenging and fair golf course: Fast and impeccable greens, great scenery. Long and short walks around the many lakes and thru pine forests. Food above average, with some margin for improvement. Wine list too standard yet includes some good B.C. bottles but not the very best. Table altogether good value. Staff is all smiles and genuinely helpful. Had free internet in our room at the main lodge.

Quite, relaxing, and first class service

We loved the quite setting of this hotel/lodge. The scenery was breathtaking. Walking along the trails around the lake and golf course was so peaceful and enjoyable. Also, seeing wild elk, wolves, and Canadian geese was all an extra exciting addition to our vacation. The service was first class and the food at the lodge was excellent. Great place and we will definitely go back.

last minute heaven

We booked 3 nights at the Jasper Fairmont about a week ahead. We got an excellent "last minute" rate on their standard room, which was small but beautiful and well-maintained, just one row back from lake-front. When we asked to be on the upper floor rather than the lower, they moved us with no complaint.

room felt like a dorm room

I found for the price of this 5 star hotel, the room was very dissappointing. We got two small beds the size of singles and a very small bathroom with a closet door that kept coming off the track every time we used it. The tv was old and the remote did not even work. The room had zero view and the hotel food was very expensive for what we got. I would not stay there again.

An excellent experience

Upon arrival, management gave us an upgrade without us asking for one. Service was excellent. Prices at lounge were very reasonable. Free use of computers with internet access was very much appreciated.

Beautiful rustic setting

We loved the rustic setting. Our room had a deck overlooking the lake next to the hotel. The common areas were impressive. BUT ... even in the casual restaurants the food and wine were very expensive. Also, some people were upset that the rooms weren’t air conditioned.

Traveler's tip

The locals we met were all exceptionally friendly and helpful.

See you ther next summer

Our stay in july 2008 was outstanding. From the moment we arrived, we new we were going to have a great time. Prompt friendly service in the lounges, and very knowledgeable servers in the dinning room. Food was outstanding. View of the lake was incredible.

Very nice place to stay

We were very pleased with the hotel. The location was beautiful and the hotel service was excellent. A bit pricy in the restaurants, but take it as a treat.

Had a great stay!

Hotel was a lovely old lodge on a beautiful lake. The staff was helpful and courteous. We had a cabin with a small livingroom near the lake. Resident elk roam the grounds, and it is very tranquil. There is a golf course on the property that is rated number 1 in Canada. I would highly recommend this resort. Not your typical luxury hotel, but a rustic version with the 4 star service.

Traveler's tip on dining

go into Jasper town and have breakfast at the Black Sheep restaurant. The prices are very reasonable and the food is great! Also, we had a great meal at the lodge in the dining room near the reception area and overlooking the lake. I can’t remember the name, but you can’t miss it.

Wonderful hotel, terrible bed

This is a beautiful hotel. Excellent service, expansive views from the mountain view rooms, very clean. Though the room decorations are very cheap and look old and dated, other than that, the lobby, lounge, and common areas are gorgeous. The only major complaint I have is that the bed was very bouncy and uncomfortable.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Right next to the Sulphur Mountain Gondola (a can’t miss) and the hot springs.

Beautiful location

Just returned from Jasper where the views are breathtaking. The Miette Hot springs cured my sore shins and thighs from the constant climbing. And yes I did get to see a brown bear on the way! We obeyed the rules and didnt intrude on his domain. The location of the Lodge is gorgeous. The lake is peaceful and surrounded by elk, goats etc... The rooms are very tired. I had reserved two double beds but they were overbooked so we got a room with one double bed. It was the worst two nights we spent in a long time. The mattress was probably from the 50’s - lumpy . We tossed and turned all night. No air conditioning, only a fan directly over the bed. The restaurant food was delicious as was the service.

An absolute beautiful location that is in process of a slow update

The hotel furnishings in lodge needs update, is worn and uncomfortable. Signage is poor. Only one elevator and not handicap accessable. Food in lodge was adequate but not great. Advertised wireless internet not accessable in rooms and at only two small desks next to guest registration. Keys were large old metal type with different numbering system than rooms. Very little parking close to cabins, first come first serve, with overflow parking several blocks away. Staff intraansit to clean cabins appeared to not be motivated and five out of six did not speak nor acknowledge guests. First day maid service was around 4:30 PM and checkout day resulted in maids cleaning room at 10AM even though checkout time was 12AM and we had gone to breakfast and had not checked out. Seemed to be a lack of communication. Signage to wash rooms in Lodge was poor and needed update. All the above reviewed with Guest Relations prior to departing.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

A beautiful and tranquil setting.Arrive for early checkin to get a parking place near your cabin.

Classic lodge setting on beautiful lake.

Great place for classic Canadian lodging. Loved the room with back porch on to beautiful lawn. The main building is beautifully decorated in lodge furnishings. Enjoyed a row on the lake. Lawns well maintained. Didn’t eat at the lodge as town was nearby. Breakfast seemed too pricey but used the room fridge to store simple breakfast. Would return to Jasper as soon as we can.

Traveler's tip on dining

We enjoyed a great prime rib dinner at Karouza’s on the main strip. Also had a good breakfast at Prince George’s
