perfectly fine for what it is
I like this hotel. Stayed there before when I needed to visit the area on personal business. It is clean and reliable. Breakfast is good and the price is reasonable. The area is nothing special, but its convenient to Arcata if you need to go there. I would stay there again.

Resort, as in Last
Its a two start hotel, so our expectations werent high going in, but I was disappointed anyway. I think they can drop "Resort" from the hotel name, as for most guests its a typical lower-end motel experience. The continental breakfast didnt offer much for us (cereal in a styrofoam bowl) but families with kids might have fun with the waffle iron. The room was tiny, quiet when people werent packing their cars outside, and had an odd scent (we kept the window open, hence the noise). And it was pricey, given the value. At these prices, next time I think well look for a bed and breakfast in Old Town Eureka.
Traveler's tip on dining
Theres a nice place for breakfast not far away, across the bridge at the Woodley Island marina cafe.

Will go back but have a few problems.
My stay at the Clarion Resort in Eureka was a positive experience overall, but I have a few complaints. First: its a motel, not a resort. Second: the stationary bicycle in the fitness room didnt work, and there was no "out of order" sign telling me so. Third: the city of Eureka had scheduled a power outage Sunday morning from 5:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m.; I didnt find out about this until Sunday morning when I discovered none of the lights worked. I was not told about this when I checked in on Friday. The location is central to Eureka and right off the 101; no street noise came into my room (at the back of the motel). The service level was adequate but not competitive; got the feeling they wouldnt mind if I went to the Red Lion down the street instead.
Traveler's tip on dining
If youd rather have a breakfast with a lot more choices, theres a nice little coffee shop specializing in omelettes about a block away, also serving crepes, waffles and pancakes - no steam table food.
