Sale price maybe, full price no way

We got a great deal on this hotel, so that’s fine, but the furnishings were very out of date so to pay full price seems crazy when there are so many chic, beautiful places to stay for the same money. Also, I don’t think we were really in the area that I would have preferred. The Latin Quarter and the Plateau seem younger with more cool stuff going on

Great location!

Hotel du Fort was the perfect place to stay for a long weekend in Montreal! Great location, can walk to the metro, lots of resturants and shops in the area. Nice and helpful staff. Great bonus to be able to park your car in the underground garage and not have to worry about street partking.

A must stay while in Montreal

Beautiful spacious rooms (microwave and refrigerator a nice touch), terrific views, convenient location, and reasonable rates - all much better than I anticipated!

One of the best if not best hotel I have ever stayed

The entire staff at this hotel was so helpful. I gym at the hotel was great and I used it everyday. The hotel is conveniently located next to shops, resturants and the metro. When I vacation in Monteral again I plan to stay at the Hotel Du Fort.

Friendly helpful staff

The folks at Hotel Du Fort were always extremely helpful in giving directions, recommendations, helping us with hotel services, etc. The room was in great shape, and we had a magnificent view of the city.

Great service and value

Hotel du Fort was a good value for our 4 nights in Montreal. It is set about 1 mile west of downtown Montreal and 2 miles west of the old city, which at first we found disheartening, however we found that Montreal is a very walking-friendly city. By the end of the trip I was convinced that I would not have seen as much of the city, nor would I have learned the metro and bus lines, had I stayed closer to the old city.

Great deal, a few glitches

Booked this hotel based on user reviews. It was spacious, comfortable and well-located at a very attractive rate. Warnings about the seediness of the neighborhood were overstated, we believe. It’s a normal city block, rather than one of the more sanitized areas. A few small complaints--we arrived 10 minutes before check-in time (which isn’t until 4:00 p.m.) and were told our room wasn’t ready, but we could upgrade to a more expensive room if we wanted to check in right away. We took the upgrade, because we’d driven through a horrendous rainstorm and really wanted to be in our room and were too frazzled to argue. Seemed a little fishy to me, though. 10 minutes? Also, the coffee packets that came with the in-room coffee maker were never replenished; we had to keep asking the front desk for more. Finally, the curtains did not close all the way, which made for some pretty strong early-morning light. Still, we’d definitely go back, based on price, comfort and convenient location.

The Biodome is really fun, and a cinch to get to on the Metro.

good location nice staff

Only serves breakfast as a buffet. You can eat at many places within an easy walk. On a street with dozens of restaurants. 20 minute walk to the center of town. Room was very quiet. Nice view from high floor. Cab stand across the street. Bus at corner. Only a few blocks from the Metro.

Traveler's tip on dining

Stayed in Montreal 5 days. Only bad meal was at Alpenhaus restaurant, a few blocks from the hotel. Allegedly a Swiss restaurant, it’s rundown with poor food quality.

Not in the best part on Ste. Catherine street

The hotel is small but has a parking lot right next to it, so it was convenient. They charged us twice for parking which was $18 a day not including the high tax in Canada. They ’upgraded’ us to the 11th floor but apparently it was not really an upgrade, the ice machine was there and the vending machine right outside of our room and they noise it produced was too much. 2 nights in a row there were a bunch of teenagers that made a horrible noise at 2am for about 30 minutes. Also the location was dingy, seems to be unsafe, in the last part of the long and famous Ste. Catherine street. 4 blocks from there it gets better, but this location is surrounded by homeless people, closed shops, broken buildings and a highway.

A Pleasant Surprise

Reading the prior reviews left me questioning my decision to stay at this hotel. However, I found it to be more than I expected. First of all, the room was huge and bathroom was not at all cramped. I was on the lowest floor, yet the view of the city was incredible. Although the Fitness Room had various equipment, it was only okay - enough to get my heart pumping. The best part was having free web access to retrieve emails in this very tiny Business Center - the only difficult part was dealing with a French keyboard. The Front Desk service was very good, but not extraordinary. As far as location, it was an easy walk to the nearest metro station with restaurants galore just outside the hotel. I didn’t need a car. Yes, I would definitely stay there again.

Nice room with view of the city.

Our room was good sized. We were thrilled with the view of the city and the kitchenette facilities. Continental breakfast offered a lot of variety and the breakfast room was pleasant. Although the hotel isn’t near the historic old town, it is near stores, resstaurants, and a metro stop. The hotel staff was helpful with maps of the metro line and the city. The only negative was that although there was parking, it was not free which we hadn’t known until we left.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

The Montreal metro and buses are easy to use. After seeing the old town, take the bus to Mont Royal Park in good weather. Get off at the lake and walk to the Chalet for an expansive view.

Hotel Du Fort Nice for the Price

Great value, clean, not a lot of bells and whistles. Montreal is a great walking city; metro station close by, plenty of shopping and return to a clean family friendly hotel room including a mini fridge and microwave.

Can’t wait the year to get back again

Easily the best experience I have ever had with a hotel. Very affordable, comfortable (my boyfriend and I stayed in the business suite and were absolutely amazed). The only disappointing part was leaving, and we’re already arranging to go back next March. Set within walking distance from anything you’d want to do in Montreal, friendly staff and very, very clean.

Good Price

The Hotel has a heated Garage for $17.99 per day, and you can come and go as you please which is really nice We paid a little extra and got a suite, which was well worth it, considering we had a Fridge, Conference Table, Living Room, and more. The hotel is right off Ste Catherine, and about a 7 min walk to Cresent, which has all the good clubs and some pretty good food. We were able to drive to Old Montreal in under 10 min’s The hotel was clean, and except for the hallway noise once in a while and a semi nice bed, was near perfect. Well worth the money

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Check out Light Ultra Club on Cresent, good party scene, at a low cost, excpect for the drinks, :)

Montreal’s best Hotel

Hotel du Fort is right where you would want to be for a leisure trip to Montreal. Right across the street is a great sports bar with the best breakfast I’ve ever had and plenty of televisions and good beer for any sportsfan. The hotel is located almost directly on St. Catherine St. which is where you would want to go if your planning on Pub crawling. Walking distance for SAQ’s, Brutopia, Club 1234, Brutopia, The London, and many other good locations. Rooms are huge and well furnished. Parking is the only downside (17.99/day)

A comfortable oasis in Montreal - I would go back again and again

Arriving in Montreal on a snowy day the Hotel Du Fort was a good pick for staying in Montreal. The staff in this hotel was extremely professional - and offered some very good recommendations as to places to see - places to eat - and how to best get there. The room was quite large - and offered a clean and well kept space for enjoying my stay. The furnishings allowed me to relax on a couch - and to separate the room area into different living areas. The wash room was well kept, clean and I felt extremel;y comfortable with the levels of sanitation that was applied to keeping the whole room clean. This hotel served extremely well as a jumping off place to see much of Montreal. It seemed to be located within a block or two of 3 different subway/train stations. Also within easy walking distance, was a large shopping mall, which offered a large selection of products for the shopper. I would use this hotel again and again for many of my future visits to Canada.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

I would visit the Cathedral in Montreal that has a show which is called Illuminations. This Church is documented as a picture show showing how the building and congregation grew along with the city. This was a colorful history of both the church and the city.
