great if you wnat a kitchen and good location
The hotel service is OK; not great and nothing exceptional but nothing to complain about. Its clean and fairly well maintained. The rooms are great if you are traveling and like to have a kitchen and living room with a separate bedroom. The bed linens and blankets need major improvement, i have stayed over here probably 12 or more times and thats always an issue. The re is a very good contemporary restaurant off the lobby and a gym with steam room plus a spa.

Not Impressed
The staff at the hotel was the only bright spot. The bed was awful, the elevators worked at will and the hotel has no fire sprinklers, that tells you how old this place was. We were under the impression that this was a new hotel. Not the case, the owners are fairly new and thats it. It cost $ 21. a day to park. When you would leave the parking door would not open, you had to get out of your car and jump on the cable to get the door to open. We would never, never stay here again and quite frankly staying away from downtown is your best bet as traffic is a BEAR!!! The hotel is quite pricey for what you get.

Great place to stay
Located in the heart of Davie Street. Everything you need is in walking distance. The staff at this hotel go out of their way to help you and are some of the friendliest we have seen anywhere.

Cool place during a hot August
A convenient location and pleasant hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia. Our room had a separate bedroom, an outdoor lania, a pull-out couch bed, a table, and modern appliances, including a washing machine and dishwasher. It was like a little apartment. The weather was unusually hot for Vancouver, and in some places reached 100 degrees. The suite was comfortably air-conditioned. The staff was friendly and helpful, as were the other guests. If you go during the August fireworks displays, and like fireworks, be sure to get an upper room facing English Bay. We were on the wrong side, but could see them reflected in the city buildings.

Going downhill, so disappointed!
I go to Vancouver often and have stayed at the Sandman on DAvie so many times before. I always thought that it was fine and pleasant service, but this last time was the last for me. People working the front desk had no idea what was going on and then I got to my room and it wasnt even cleaned by the maids yet.(It was 10:00 p.m. at night) I asked if while we were out, could they just send the maid service to clean it, so we wouldnt have to move our bags and they said that they couldnt do that because there wasnt any maid service that evening. I asked them if they could move our luggage for us to our new room and they replied with the same response of not being able to do that either. So, I looked at them and said that I will just deal with it when I return. When I got back, the staff had personally cleaned the room because there werent any others available. So we went back to our room and it still was really digusting. Old carpet, horrible scratchy bedding, sloping bed that you fell off of the childrens mattress that they had on. Everything there is getting so old and it needs a makeover. Never staying again, this hotel sucks!

Great hotel...great location!
Ive stayed here several times and always look forward to coming back. Its walking distance to all the great parts of Vancouver. The hotel is well maintained and the staff are friendly. The full kitchens including in-room laundry cant be beat. Ill always stay here.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Close to Stanley Park, English Bay, Granville Island and popular Granville Street. All are within walking distance. The hotel is in a great neighborhood as well. All bus lines are minutes away.

Not What We Reserved
The hotel was decent, and we only had one problem. We booked (and paid for) a suite with a king size bed and view of the bay. When we arrived, we discovered the room we received had a queen size bed and a view of city buildings. Because of the nature of our visit, it wasnt worth the stress of trying to get things fixed. The suite would have been a great place to stay, despite the queen size bed, if we had stayed more than a couple days. There was a fridge with freezer, dishwasher, fold-out sofa bed, and even a clothes washer. There was "no" thirteenth floor which was pretty interesting. The hotel itself was located right in the heart of Vancouver nightlife, and most everything was open well past midnight. Except for the confusion with our room, it was a pretty good place to stay.

Great hotel and location but...
My room was clean and comfortable for the duration of my stay. That said, they had water boiler problems and I had no hot water the last two days I was there. I was instructed to shower down on the third floor at their spa showers. Upon arriving at the showers, there was water all over the floor and there were no towels as well as no soap. I would think that they would have someone pay more attention to those showers knowing that floors of guests would be relying on them.

Would stay at this hotel again
Hotel is in a good position and an easy walk to Robson Street. Plenty of small places to eat around hotel and the resturant in the hotel was very good.I was on the 11th floor and had a good view of the city.Small supermarket just across the road.
Traveler's tip on shopping
Best shopping was in Robson Street with plenty of shops and good service and a wide range of goods at reasonable prices. Only a short walk from the hotel.

One Night Stay
Arrived too early to check into room but guest services staff willingly held my luggage and gave me ideas and directions on where to go and when the room might be ready. The following day at checkout they again offered to hold my luggage until my ride arrived. The hotel is well maintained and in a good location for many activities--walking to English Bay, Robson Street shopping, and all nightime activities. Good security system with elevator entry. Only problem was the 3 elevators often were filled and took a long time to wait for next one.

sticky air in all rooms, uncontrollable aircondition, Shower had no water pressure, only dripping
One of the worst places to recommend and one of the worst places we ever stayed in. From elevator waiting times up to 10 minutes to no water pressure in the shower. In the morning house keeping will wake you up because they want to move to the next floor cleaning eventhough you have the "do not disturb sign on" They will knock on your neighbours room walls unti you get up. Uncontrollable air condition. Either ice cold or hot. Probably bed bugs because our skin was itching once we got under the blanket.

Not impressed
Okay, the view was impressive and we liked the location, but that was about it. The elevators had a mind of their own, the front desk wouldnt admit that but maintenance did. The sliding glass door to the balcony was so hard to open, in fact the night we stayed a guest in a nearby room had issues opening his sliding glass door...he must have finally used too much strength to get the door open and the door pitched forward and shattered glass everywhere. The washer/dryer has a mind of its own too. You ask it to dry and itll wash, etc,. We wont be back!!!
Traveler's tip on dining
The Greek restaurant Characters on Davie street has wonderful food and great service. After we had a scrumptious meal, the hostess went online to find us some nightclubs to go to...we never asked her...she did this all on her own....what service!...we have dined here before and loved it...we will be back!

Great view of English Bay!
Suite had a full kitchen with dishes, utensils and dishwasher. Very centrally located within walking distance to Robson St., Grandview Island water taxi and the beach on English Bay.
Traveler's tip on shopping
Grocery store, liquor store and drug store nearby. Located in Gay section of City and some of the shops and restaurants in area maybe uncomfortable for some people.

Worst. Elevator. Ever.
The location is great. The suite was fine. However, only 2 of the 3 elevators were working, and they were extremely slow. Often we had to wait 5-10 minutes for one to come to our floor. The ice machine (not on our floor, so we had to wait for the elevator) was broken (so we had to wait again for the elevator to another floor to get ice). The price we paid was quite high, it seemed that the level of service should have been better.

Good Hotel
The hotel is clean and the staff are friendly. We arrived early (about 10AM) and we were offered early check-in at no additional charge and were lucky to get a 22nd floor room with a nice view. I read the other reviews before booking and Id have to say that the folks who thought the Davie Street area surrounding the hotel is dicey were probably a bit put off by a few homeless folks sleeping on the sidewalk. Welcome to the real world. The Davie Village area is a gay enclave, one of the reasons we chose to stay at this hotel. Very nice and friendly people in Vancouver. We loved the trip!

Terrific Location!
Sandman on Davies is in a great location! We were upgraded to an ocean view and very much enjoyed a beautiful sunset while standing on the small balcony. We enjoyed being able to walk everywhere and the water taxi was just a few blocks away which we took over to Granville Island to splurge on items for snacking and breakfast. There are also several restaurants and markets on Davie offering a good variety they are mixed in with a few sex shops however nothing was in your face. The kitchen set up was very nice and they also provided ample pots/pans. As it was a warm day we turn on the air conditioner which was a bit loud however did the job. Overall the rooms were a bit on the small side however I felt the value was good for the price. Speaking of prices, Vancouver has definitely gone up over the past few years and construction is going on everywhere I would imagine in prep for the 2010 Olympics.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Pick up some food items at the local shops or over at Granville Island. You can also walk to Robson, the Sea Wall and Stanley Park easily from this location. I also recommend using the water taxi to visit Granville Island, Yaletown, Stamptown and the Science Center - better view and easier than dealing with all the construction.

I always like to stay at this hotel.
The hotel is strategically located in major venues like restaurants, good walking distance to Robson Street, Stanley Park, movie theater, banks. What I like about the hotel is that my suite is like a one bedroom condo with kitchen, living room one separate bedroom...although the bedroom is small but the bed is so comfortable.. I totally recommend this place...I am looking forward to staying at this hotel again this November 2008 on my next visit.
Traveler's tip on dining
There are several restaurants that dots the area where the hotel is located as well as coffee shops. There is a Greek Restaurant a few doors away thats always pack every night. Althought I have not visited this particular restaurant, it must be very good because there is always a long line of people getting to get in.

Let Down
My husband and I used to enjoy staying at this hotel but after our last stay, we will not be staying at this hotel in the future. Our room was not cleaned consistently, the washing machine did not work and the pool was not heated. I called ahead and asked them if the pool was heated and they said yes. When I went down there with my son it was ice cold. We were truly disappointed.

Good location-nice rooms
Sandman Suites has an excellent location in downtown Vancouver, and is walking distance to the water, Robson St and Gastown. There are lots of excellent restaurants nearby as well as shopping and sightseeing. The rooms are very nice with fully furbished kitchenettes complete with dishes and utensils. The tub is VERY slippery, even with the supplied rubber mat, but otherwise everything was very nice. Parking is pricey at $18/day whether valet or self park, but there is no free parking in downtown Vancouver. However, the exchange rate combined with higher prices overall made this a very expensive vacation (we stayed in Whistler at a time share also). We were pleased, and would stay there again when prices are a bit more reasonable.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Dining out was so expensive, we had bagels in the room in the am. We kept snacks and beer in the fridge too. The Aquarium in Stanley park was wonderful, as was Granville Island! The exchange rate was almost even, so most places made change for US dollars with Canadian; no reason to change money ahead of time.

Have already gone back enjoyed our stay comfortable
We really liked the location of the hotel. We usually stay @ the Coast a few blocks away and I definetly like this hotel the best for our needs. It has a separate bedroom, small kitchen, coffee pot. There is a TV in both rooms. The only difficult thing we found were the room card keys they have to be used in the elevator to get from lobby to room floor. They did not work very well. Had no problem getting them to work on room door. Also went from 16th floor down to 15th to get ice and could not get in on that floor, so the ice thing ended up taking quite a bit of time. I burned my foot while there and the staff was extremely helpful coming to my aid.
Traveler's tip for business travelers
Close to many businesses and they also park your car for you it was very convienient.

Hip Hotel in a Hip part of town
This hotel is great. Everything has been updated and the aesthetic is quite modern. The hotel also hosts a wonderful day spa where guests can make complimentary use of the Eucalyptus Steam Room! The best part of this hotel were the hotel employees. They were incredibly friendly and helpful and so happy to greet you no matter what time of day you stumbled in. The location could not be better!
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Park the car and go for a walk. Everything in the city is accessible on foot from this hotel. There are heaps of great art galleries and fantastic eateries in this neighborhood.
