Dar Zaman, meaning “old house”, is a jewel in the heart of the hectic Marrakech medina. The riad is ideally located north of the main square in the quartier Sidi Ben Slimane, close to the souks and the Medersa Ben Youssef. Run by an energetic young team under the guiding hand of the English owner, Peter, this is a place for calm, for romance, for laughter and a truly great vibe. Owned for centuries by a local family, the riad has been restored to its former glory and is now a gorgeous boutique guesthouse. Boasting four exquisite double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning/heating, the queen-sized beds are heavenly; decadent lie-ins are mandatory! Both the salon and salle à manger have open fireplaces, and a third smaller salon is equipped with satellite TV and wifi hotspot. Graced by swaying palms and perfumed by jasmine and orange blossom, the sun terrace is a wonderful retreat in the sun or shade. Relax with a mint tea and a good book and relish in the magic of the call of the muezzin and the spectacular views across the medina rooftops to the Koutoubia minaret and the snow-capped High Atlas mountains in the distance. A sumptuous breakfast is included in the room rate – a wonderful choice of fresh bread, croissants, pastries and crepes with honey and jam, yoghurt and eggs, served with freshly squeezed orange juice, tea and coffee. The resident cook, Fatima, has been feted for her delicious Moroccan dishes. Dining at Dar Zaman is a feast for the senses. Whether it's Quail with Apricots, Beef with Prunes, or Couscous Royale, you'll be in for a true gastronomic delight.
