Weekend get a way

The only complaints weren’t major ones. The elevator was way too slow. My main complaint was with the restaurant in the lobby. The scrambled eggs were very slimy and they need to be better prepared to serve children. They gave my two year old a stemware glass for his milk. He grabbed it before I could get it from him and spilled it all over our other child and the table. They also need to get better water pressure in the shower.

An older but comfortable hotel

My wife and I stayed two nights at the Glenstone Lodge in October. The hotel was clean, the staff were kind and courteous, and the room was clean and comfortable. The hotel has one elevator to access upper floors and unfortunately is a little on the slow side, but the open view inside makes up for it. The hotel has two indoor pools-- one deep, one shallow-- connected by a waterfall, and an indoor hot tub. The restaurant has a breakfast buffet every morning until 11am, laden with typical southern fare (pork, pork, biscuits, more pork). Parking is adequate and illuminated and seemed safe, even at the time of year we visited. The hotel is a short walk off the main strip, and is quiet and peaceful. Our only complaint is that the water pressure on upper floors was terrible. If you shower in the morning, like most, be prepared for very low pressure, and even brief outages. That was our experience. We could shower and rinse, but it was touch-and-go. Also, the upper floor rooms facing away from the street have no balconies and are over the ventilation systems for the first floor, so expect a continuous whirring sound all night. Nothing you can’t sleep through. There is a newer and nicer Holiday Inn resort next door that I would recommend over this hotel, simply because it probably has better accommodations. But for the price, features and location, Glenstone is still a good deal.

Anyone who wishes to eat kosher will find Gatlinburg a challenge, especially for breakfast. My wife and I found that the Flapjacks chain of pancake houses in and around Gatlinburg regularly stock turkey sausage and turkey bacon as substitutes for pork. They also stock sugar free pancake syrup and can make whole or multi-grain pancakes, if you’re trying to eat a lower carbohydrate or low glycemic index diet, such as South Beach or Atkins.

Nothing special.

The hotel was clean, but very out-of-date when it came to style and decor. The pictures of the pool are what had originally sold me, because I planned on being there more than my room. However, it’s not as amazing in person. You either have to get in the “kiddy” pool which is 3ft all the way around. Or the adult pool which is only 7-9ft and smaller then the kiddy pool. Overall it was a decent hotel, but to pricy for what it’s worth. I won’t be staying there again.

Great for the hikers coming to Gatlinburg

Love the locations of the hotels in this area, and have stayed in several in the nearby locations. I come to Gatlingburg to see the Smokies, the hotels nearer the park always appeal to me. Didn’t have a chance to try out the pool/recreation facility, but had very nice breakfast buffet and very comfortable room. Would definitely stay there again on future visits.

Good value

If you’re looking for a place near the main drag in Gatlinburg, that doesn’t cost a fortune, then this is it. It is within walking distance of the main street but far enough away to avoid the hustle and bustle. The Log Cabin Pancake House is about 1/2 block down the street - a great place for breakfast.

Would definitely stay again.

If you’re wanting a continental breakfast, you’re out of luck. There’s a breakfast buffet and it’s over-priced. The indoor pool is awesome-has a beautiful waterfall. Rooms are clean and staff is friendly. Walking distance from the strip.

Don’t stay there!

Everything was bad. I asked for a king size bed and they got it wrong. The inside pool was disgusting, the room smelled and the fridge was gross. Everything was out dated and bad. Wayyyy to much money for the quaility and it is far walk from the strip. No nice views. You will be disappointed I’m sure

Hidden Gem

I loved our stay at the Glenstone. Everything was perfect from beginning to end. The staff was very friendly at check in and all the cleaning staff that we encountered were nice. The room was very clean. We traveled with a four and two year old who LOVED the pool. The kiddie pool was a major plus for us, or kids loved it. We had an awesome experience with the cleaning staff: Just to start let me explain one thing; My daughter who is 4 carries her Raggedy Ann (aka Dolly) anywhere she sleeps over. We had her to keep Dolly in the room while we walked downtown, so we wouldn’t lose her. So Dolly "slept" in the room, my daughter covered her up, and was very apprehensive about leaving her. When we returned the room was cleaned nicely and to my surprise, Dolly was laying with her head on a pillow and covered back up "sleeping". This was awesome and above and beyond in my opinion. My daughter felt so much better about leaving Dolly the next day. So, yes, our experience was all around Great and we will someday return.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Stay close to the strip in Gatlinburg. Will save you parking money.

Not very impressed,

I was not very impressed with the hotel for the price I paid. The ceiling in the bathroom shower had partly fall’n into the tub and the hot water was hard to manage. Towels were rough. The food in the hotel was great and so was the price.

Average-below average

The room smelled like previous occupants had smoked in it so that was bothersome. Otherwise the room was just average in all areas.

clean and convenient

Probably the best thing about staying at Glenstone was its central location to Gatlinburg restaurants, shops, and the convention center. We were able to walk instead of having to drive and hunt parking. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay.

Nice hotel for a budget, and small children.

The Pros: The pool is definately why we chose the Glenstone Lodge for our stay. My husband and I first stayed there 9 years ago, and 2 kids later the pool proved to be a winner for us. It’s very warm and pretty large....a 1-2’ deep kiddie pool...another pool that’s 3’ deep and the upper pool is 9’ deep. It has a great little water fall from the upper pool cascading over into the 3’ deep pool which is good to play under. Also has a nice sized hot tub. It is close to the Gatlinburg strip if you like to walk along and shop/eat/play. Definately within walking distance and that saves parking money + time in traffic and aggrivation of traffic. We actually walked to the Hard Rock Cafe for dinner which was a little less than 1 mile away. Not really too bad...we have a 5 year old and 9 year old that didn’t mind the walk. The beds were pretty comfortable and our room had a mini fridge in it. The day we checked out the hotel staff let us swim after checkout time. That was nice because it was just us in there, and it set us just right for napping on the way back home. :) The Cons: The rooms are pretty dated and could use some definate upgrading. For instance, our sink vanity was cracked inside, tv was a 19", and the bathrooms are very small. Compared to the nicer and larger condos we usually stay in I would consider this dated, but really very petty things considering what we paid per night. The fun that my family had in the pool was worth the price.

decent

Indoor pool looked like it needed some work. For the money they should’ve offered free breakfast. Other than that it was decent. We left and came back a few days later and stayed at the Fairfield Inn. It was awsume for lesser money

Not that impressed

Went for three nights. Front of the hotel looked great. Lobby was nice. Front desk staff had an "I don’t care" attitude. Indoor pool was small but our son liked it. The hot tub was more like a warm tub. Breakfast was high for what it looked like you would get, we didn’t eat it. Asked about a newspaper and was told it was not free. Staff did look up something in the paper for me. Room was small with stains on the carpet and walls. AC was loud. TV had only about 15 channels but we were not there to watch TV. The smallest bathroom I’ve seen in a hotel. To close the door you had to walk around the toilet. Weak water pressure in the shower. Ice machine didn’t work on our floor. Good price on Cokes in the machine. Met one nice staff person who talked to us. The maid did a nice job.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Gatlinburg and Smoky Mts Park in a great place to visit. We will go back to Gatlinburg.

not impressed

The air condition unit in our room was extremely noisy all night. There was mold on the walls near the bathroom. Room was facing the inside pool which was noisy with people until 11:00 when it closed. Water in indoor pool was too warm to enjoy a refreshing swim. Outdoor pool was nice.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Visited the Ripley’s Aquarium and hiked in the smokies...went to the top of Clingmon’s Done. Do not recommend this to people who are "out of shape"....beautiful view of the mountains.

Under impressed

They’re apparently undergoing some renovation as indicated by equipment in and outside, but the room I stayed in could certainly have used a good cleaning. Also my room was next to the indoor pool and might have been better suited to someone with children as the noise level was high until late in the evening.

Stay Away!!!

I have stayed in hotel all over the world never in my life have I seen a dirt-er place. When we were finally able to turn on a lite BUGS everywhere, only one channel on the TV and that was cloudy, our view was of a WALL, I asked for another room a rude voice on the other end let me know there were non available. But, I always try to find the best in everything, the towels were soft. We left.....

Good buy

This hotel is a little off the Parkway in Gatlinburg, but it’s a great buy for the money. It’s quiet and both pools are great and kept clean. Our bathroom was the cleanest I’ve ever seen in a hotel. Ripley’s attractions are fairly close by, just wear your tennis shoes and comfy clothes for walking. The downside was the fridge and coffeemaker did not work (I think the fridge was just unplugged), but luckily, we didn’t use either of these things. Also, housekeeping brought towels when we were out of the room and left our door open a crack, which was reported to management. Overall, I was pleased with the stay.

Traveler's tip on dining

Visit the Log Cabin Pancake House across the street for a great breakfast.

Nice place overall

Overall, my husband and I liked the hotel. Our room was clean but neither of us cared for the small bathroom. Not a problem when there’s only one person but with 2 of us trying to get cleaned up at the same time, it was tight. The restaurant provided a decent buffet breakfast. You had the option of a specially prepared omelet if desired in addition to fruit, eggs, cereal, waffles, etc... The indoor pool/jacuzzi area was especially nice whether you are grown or a kid. Relatively convenient to the downtown Gatlinburg area. It is about 2 blocks from the main drag. It is very close to the Convention Center, Bubba Gumps restaurant, the Space Needle and a terrific pancake house across from the hotel. The hotel is one block from the entrance to the popular Motor Nature Trail which leads to some very nice hiking trails. PRO’s: Convenient location. Hotel pricing comparable to others and possibly less for a holiday weekend in Gatlinburg. The bed was fairly comfortable. CON’s: Small bathroom No Mini-fridge in the room

Traveler's tip

If you are okay with an average hotel room that is clean and quiet and offers a convenient location, this is a good choice.

Great hotel for a weekend getaway

The hotel was very nice for a weekend getaway. The hotel was an older hotel but has been very well kept. The room was very clean and the children loved the indoor pool.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

This hotel is 1-2 blocks from all the attractions in Gatlinburg. Everything is within walking distance, but be warned the walk back to the hotel is uphill the entire way.
