oasis in the busy heart of paris
This small hotel had a very traditional French feel about it. Its location on a short sidestreet guaranteed a quiet nights sleep. Walls within the hotel were not sound-proofed, but other guests were usually considerate. The room was tiny, but comfy with a bed and a desk. The bathroom was newly remodelled and the plumbing worked well. The shower was compact- I found it a challenge scrub my back or feet- anything that required bending of joints. The neighborhood is very safe and pleasant. You can walk in any direction to famous sights, such as the Seine River, museums, plazas, gardens. The staff was very friendly and helpful- they made you feel truly welcome.
Airport taxis may rip you off- try to catch a shuttle instead. There is a wonderful street market on Sunday morning a couple blocks away, next to Saint Eustache Church where you can splurge on fresh fruits/veggies and baked goods for a fraction of the cost in restaurants.

Smaller than a cruiseship
Ive been on cruises, and Ive been to Paris four times (and am used to their small hotelrooms), and this was the smallest room I have ever been in. The shower was 18" deep. Now, go and mesure the width of your shoulders, and see how wide they are - Ill bet they are more than 18" (esp. if youre male). Thus, you cant even turn around in the shower. The bathroom itself is only large enough for one person, so you have to wait until one person is completely finished before you can fit in. I was on the top floor (6th), and the ceiling is sloped on one side. Because of that, you cant stand upright when you get out of bed. And that side of the room is the only place to store your luggage, so youre stooped over when you are getting into that. I spent 50% of the time bent over at a 45% angle. The elevator is listed at "3 Person Maximum", which means there isnt room for two people and two large bags - the two of you will have to ride up separately. And the elevator only goes to the 5th floor - if you are on the 6th, you have to walk a narrow, winding flight of stairs that isnt even wide enough for you to carry your bags at your side - you must carry them in front of you or behind you, which is awkward and dangerous. 10 oz. drinks in the mini-refrig are $5.50. There is no iron. It is about 2-3 blocks from the Louvre (4-5 blocks to the actual entrance), and about 3 blocks to the Metro. Lots of 24-hour restaurants nearby at Les Halles. Cabfare from Charles DeGaulle was 45 Euros.
