Happy but not ecstatic.

The venerable Algonquin is warn, cozy and elegant in that "grandparents" kind of way. The lounge is nicely furnished in a layout that offers a sense of many small living rooms, for added intimacy. Room was small and felt a bit old, but very comfortable bed. Service is generally cordial, Had an experience where, while getting a small piece of advice from the concierge, he ceded to an interruption by a guest he seemed to have interacted with before, leaving us feeling a bit dismissed...somewhat less professional than I would have expected given the history of the Algonquin. Terrific location for a night of theater, though.

Good value for the money.

The property is historical and as such, the room and lobby were "intimate." That said, the room was stylish and clean and would recommend it to anyone who’s company is price sensitive. The staff was quite friendly and the bar was attractive and reaked of days gone by.
