Great Stay

This is a great hotel next to the beach. Nice bar and restaurant, the hotel offers small fold-out chairs for on the beach. There are two types of rooms, ones with new furniture and others in the old style, the new ones are nicer, but the old ones are also ok. Great hotel at a good value.

Great location!

We had our grandsons with us and they had a blast. There is a nice park next to the hotel, the pool is perfect and the hotel right on the beach. A very family-friendly place.

Keep telling yourself your next to the beach, because that’s the only benifit to staying at this hotel.Room smelled moldy.Pool and spa shut down during entire stay.Never mentioned on website.Could have hiked next door when the bellboy had time to escort us. Plumbing problems which caused an hour delay in getting to dinner.Room card problems. I must have had one of the older rooms(east side)because the furniture was dusty and shabby. We came back after a day at the beach to find that it had been skipped by cleaning crew. I parked in lot one night untill I realised there’s plenty of parking out front. They charged me for my entire stay.They’d be wise to have the bar stay open later then 10 pm. But you ARE next to the beach. This hotel thinks that should suffice.

This was our second year of spending a week at the hotel. We think it’s a great hotel!!!Every one was wonderful, from the front desk help, bartenders, servers, were very friendly and helpful. The food was great!! Views were the best!! Can’t wait to go again next year!!

The hotels food was great! There are many good resturants walking distance from the hotel. we went to the hotels sister fine dining resturant, what a wonderful experience! expensive, but worth every penny.

BEST VIEWS OF BEACH!

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It was clean, room was big. Loved how it was right on the beach! It’s a great location! I would go back! Great to watch the sunset!

Beach Retreat

I have been staying at this hotel (formerly the Sea Lodge)since 1987. The service from all hotel employees is great. The ocean-front rooms have been updated and are marvelous, even in stormy weather! The Shores restaurant is greatly improved with an eclectic menu - the holiday buffet was superb! As a former business traveler, I have stayed in many hotels, but I keep coming back to this retreat.

Favorite restaurants: Crab Catcher for Sunday Brunch. Jake’s Del Mar is superb for ocean-front dining. The Marine Room is over-priced and pretentious. The Americana in Del Mar has a huge breakfast selection.

Not impressed

The rooms were just ordinary and smelled musty. It was also difficult to find the parking entrance when I arrived at night. The only bright spot was a very pleasant young lady the following morning who provided me with the names of several locations for breakfast.

Not a 5-star, but a great place anyway

The hotel rooms were a bit dated decor-wise, but the staff were very helpful and the location was great - right on the beach! You can snorkel & scuba dive from the shore in front of the hotel. A whale was visiting the bay while we were there. Also, the on-site restaurant was great - both the food and the service! They have a complimentary shuttle to downtown La Jolla or wherever you wanted to go locally for both drop off and pick up. Just call and they will come and get you after dinner and/or drinks downtown.

Needs work

Main complaint is A/C didn’t work and was only a window unit. Plus we had an ant infestation. Great beach!!!!!!

Don’t Waste Your Money

After spending extra for an ocean view, our room was actually at the end of the hotel, facing a busy street. The scuba divers all arrive at 6:30 in the morning with a big semi truck, so we could not even go out on our balcony. The truck was right outside our door. The view we paid extra for was of this street and truck every morning. When we asked to be moved, the said sorry. Very upseting for the kids also.

Wonderful, we had a great view of the coastline and the Pacific Ocean! One of the hotel staff noticed our children when we first arrived and brought a teddy bear for each up to our room.

COULD BE BETTER

Hotel was ok. Check in is at 4:00. Don’t even think of checking in an hour earlier. Took for ever to find us a room. Reservation was for a different, a quiet room. My room was horrible: third floor, in the corner, pool view - the hall was right there!!! Could not sit or be in bed without every single person walking by, starring at you. Too stuffy to close curtains. Lights in the hall in your face all night. Pool hours till 9:00pm but people were there till 10:45pm (Teens) the hot tub is for (I swear) max of 4 people. Not fit for this size hotel. The GOOD: loved location - on the beach, near by shops. Lil’ pool for toddlers was great!!! Pool and Garden areas very clean.

FANTASTIC ACCOMODATIONS

The old addage, "You can’t judge a book by it’s cover" certainly applies here. As you drive up you notice it is an older hotel. When you enter it is a pleasant surprise. The hotel is clean and well maintained. The service is exceptional as well as the comfort of the rooms. The food at the Shores restaurant was excellent. I noticed many families here but never heard any noise. The hotel supplies barbques if you want to cook on the beach as well as chairs and umbrellas. This is an A++ Hotel.

The Best

The staff at The La Jolla Shores Hotel made this stay extra special and the one problem we did have, though no fault of the hotel’s, was taken care of immediately. This place is tops on my list for a return visit

Could be REALLY nice....

This hotel charges a premium & needs to seriously upgrade their furnishings. Specifically the beds are uncomfortable & they had outdated nasty bedspreads. Last La Jolla visit, I stayed at the Hotel La Jolla with had the upgraded furnishings/linens and was less expensive. La Jolla Shores was bordering on shabby & uncomfortable. In their defense, when I checked in , they were unloading a truck load of new mattresses....these upgrades may be being done. The other questionable thing was that they took away the lobby coffee at 8AM on a Sunday morning??? A bit too early, wouldn’t you think. They also were short staffed. There were no waiters serving the pool or the beach areas...they were just spread a bit too thin. If La Jolla Shores Hotel doesn’t do the upgrades mentioned above, I will stay at Hotel La Jolla next time. Thanks, M

Right on the beach

The hotel is beautiful and right on the beach. The price is high for the rating, but for La Jolla and the great location, its a must stay. The staff is excellent. They did their best to accommodate a mishap with our reservation. The hotel rooms are going through renovations so they are changing the mattresses and hopefully the pillows as well. I’d go back anytime.

Pay extra for a beach front room, it would be worth the view just to see the dolphins at night.

management needs to spend some money

Service - Excellent. Great staff Restaurant - food OK, pricing excessive Bar - service very good, pricing out of sight Room - walls paper thin, could hear the neigbors in regular discussion Internet access - antique setup, hardware barely functional, had to continually jerry rig cables etc. to stay connected. In addition, you can only connect if you sit on the bed. Too far from the desk. Bad oversight Location - great. Property allowed to fall into disrepair, probably stays full anyway

Wonderful stay: Relax and enjoy your family

This was a great trip, wonderful hotel, right on the beach. Location was excellent near restaurants, UCSD, and attractions. Great environment for relaxation and having a great time with your friends and family. Parking is expensive. You can eat at small restaurants around the block. A supermarket is within 3 blocks. I’ll come back again after having been in many hotels in the San Diego Area.

You can park on the street and eat in restaurants around La Jolla. If you want to relax on the ocean, this is a great beach and a wonderful location. The official prices are very expensive but shop around and you will get better deals.

We enjoyed our stay at the La Jolla Shores Hotel very much and would definitely go back. The hotel staff was some of the best we’ve experienced anywhere - very polite, friendly, attentive - reminded us of the outstanding service we’ve received when on a cruise. We loved having the beach just outside the door, the heated pool and spa, and enjoyed playing ping pong in the beautiful courtyard. The view of the ocean was awesome and the staff set up chairs, umbrellas and towels for us whenever we wanted to hang out on the beach. Upon settling in we noticed that our hair dryer wasn’t working and they replaced it immediately so we were very satisfied on that also. The hotel is in a nice location with a variety of cafes and shops within a few blocks. There is also a wonderful restaurant at the hotel where we enjoyed dinner with a view of a stunning sunset over the ocean.

Disappointed in La Jolla

We were very disappointed in the room which seriously needs updating. Also didn’t seem as clean as it should be. Undesirable odors. Sink didn’t drain. Water not hot (warm). Toilet ran. Noisy. Also, restaurant not that good. ($4 for cup of coffee!!!) Obviously, location is great, right on the beach. Nothing else about the hotel lived up to expectation. Pay parking also added to expense.
