Parking lot view - overpriced - must pay to park

A want to be nice place - really just an average place - I found it offensive to be charged for parking with no notice. Truly underwhelming. If they need $10 that bad - put it in the room cost. Room entry keys worked after repeated tries over and over - spend some parking money on your junky technology.

We are looking forward to a return trip.

We have never been dissatisfied withy any Marriott location, so we always seek them out. The Ventura site was beautiful, comfortable, and we only wished we had more time to extend our stay.

Marriott Ventura Hotel - No Complimentary Breakfast

Only thing I was surprised about is that this Marriott did not have the free breakfast as I have experienced in all of my other Marriott stays. This one had a separate restaurant in it. Since I had to pay for breakfast, I thought the price per night was high. Also, the mushroom soup in that restaurant made me very sick the night I had it. Overall, the hotel part was very nice

Ventura is not a vacation city -- all attractions were focused on Santa Barbara to the north of the Ventura (about 1-2 hour drive). Which is probably why things were somewhat cheaper.

Disappointing

We were on vacation - no kids, ours are grown and gone. We wanted peace and quiet. We were placed on a floor with families - kids on both sides of our room with parents who let them scream and yell at 10:30 at night and 6:00 in the morning. Coffee in our room...after it brewed it had an oily film on top of the coffee. No drinking that pot of coffee! Management said they would send someone to "investigate"...no one ever came. We have stayed at Marriott in Salt Lake City and had exceptional service, room, everything. Ventura was extremely disappointing. Adults should be on floors for adults and families should be designated to floors for families.

Good Location

We choose this hotel because it was right near the beach. We were a 5 minute walk to the beach, and a 5 minute drive to downtown Ventura. While no rooms can see the ocean, some look onto the pool and lagoon in the center courtyard which is very well maintained. There is a $10 a day for parking which should be considered. All and all a very nice hotel with very friendly and helpful staff that helped us locate restaurants and attractions in the area.

Not impressed

When you go to a beach town and pay for one of the more expensive hotels in the area,it is unpleasant to look out your window and see a parking lot with old "crappy" homes with windows facing directly into the room. No ocean in sight! Stay somewhere less expensive for the comfort. This hotel is pretty from the outside, nice on the inside, but not nearly worth the cost.I wouldn’t recommend it unless you are staying for a convention. In my opinion, it’s not a leisurely weekend hotel. My husband and I stayed here because we went to a concert at the Ventura Theatre. The next day, we visited Santa Barbara which made up for the hotel.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

State Street in Santa Barbara is a great place to have a weekend of leisure in the Spring and Summer. Have fun trying to park!

Not Very Impressed

This hotel has a great lobby area and looks ok from the outside, but the rooms need to be updated, especially the bathrooms. The first room we were given had a terrible looking bathtub. It was moldy and dirty, it looked as if they tried to re-glaze it, but it was a terrible job, so we asked for a second room. The second room we got, the bathtub wasn’t as bad but still had that terrible re-glazed job, and didn’t look as dirty as the first, but the bedding on one of the beds was filthy. The sheets had sneaker prints on them and shams were dirty as well, as if they had been stepped on. We called and two maids came up immediately to change the sheets. The beds are comfortable enough. The pool area is nice, but the pool was really dirty. There are palm trees in the pool area so it’s understandable that there would be leaves and such, but it was also full of foam and white paper floating around. Maybe some children threw styrofoam cups in there or something. The bar service was great and the drinks were pretty good. The hotel is really close to the beach, you can walk to the beach from the hotel, and the park is next door, which was nice. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel only because the rooms need to be updated, especially those bathtubs, they looked pretty bad. We were expecting more from a Marriott because we’ve stayed at the Marriott in Oahu and that was a beautiful, clean and super comfortable room.

Great Place to Stay!

This hotel was great. Just a few minutes walk to a great beach and a short drive to the Harbor where there are shops and restaurants. Very friendly and helpful staff. Room was comfortable and nice. We loved the In-n-Out across the street for an after beach treat.

It was great!

We had a beautiful room with comforable clean beds with down comforters and more pillows than needed. We had dinner and drinks in the bar with a very friendly staff and the room service for the kids was very timely. We love Marriotts and were certainly Not disappointed.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

2 minutes from the beach and half the price of Santa Barbara which is just about 20 minutes away.

Several difficulties

My 13 yo special needs daughter and I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights. The Internet says that they have a refrigerator. Our room did not have one. We had to call 3 times to get one, which was large and included a microwave on top. Because of my daughter’s emotional issues, I need to limit access to pornography on the TV. The parental controls on the Marriott TVs do not work. The corporate office was able to turn off the movies but we could not control the TV. They tried to help me for 4 days to no avail. They did apologize. My daughter had homework to do and will only do it if I sit next to her. We had a nice table in the room that served as a desk, but only 1 chair. In order for me to sit next to her, we needed another chair. We had to ask for 3 days before we finally got another desk chair to the room. The restaurant provided a limited menu, but there were adequate restaurants across the street and within walking distance. The outdoor space was attractive and the pool was nice. It was really too cold to swim (the outdoor temp was 60 degrees) but my daughter said the water was warm. The hotel is a short walk to the beach. The best part was the ability to rent bikes so that we could bike through the park next door and down to the Ventura pier. The bikes rent for $15.00 an hour.

Call ahead and see if they can get the pornography off the TV and if they can get the parental controls to work. Also, there is a Von’s grocery store nearby. If you have a refrigerator, you can stock up on drinks and snacks.

Room type not guaranteed

Went to Ventura for our anniversary. Requested a room with one King but were given a room with two smaller beds instead. I was told that the hotel was 100% full and there were no other rooms available (even though the parking lot was empty and we arrived fifteen minutes before check-in.) After speaking with the manager, they were able to find a room with a King bed for us. I didn’t realize that there were no guarantees on room type. Once that was settled we had a very nice stay. The only other problem was that the bath tub didn’t drain very well. Even after we asked to have it fixed, we had to stand in four inches of water to take a shower.

Traveler's tip on dining

Check out Cafe Noveau for a great breakfast. A Spanish cottage with patio seating, a fountain, very quaint.
