Problems at the Doubletree in Fort Lauderdale
Everything was fine until checkout. I checked out at 1 pm and was told (without prior disclosure) that there would be a $75.00 late checkout fee. Considering there was no prior notice given to me of a late checkout fee, there was no one was in the lobby, and the hotel did not appear to be crowded, I consider this undisclosed "surprise" to be gouging and improper. I would recommend that you issue a warning to all customers using Doubletree.

Good place to stay post cruise
Booked hotel for 1 night post cruise. Arrived prior to check-in time and was told no rooms were ready. Desk staff took my cell phone number and said they would call when a room became available. However they never called. I returned about an hour after normal check in and was told "rooms had just been finished". (Doubtful - it seems staff just failed to call). Other than this minor glitch we really liked the hotel. It was clean, had very nice decor and layout, and was within a doable walking distance to the Ft Lauderdale beach and a shopping mall. The hotel itself also has a very small but very nice "beach" area on the intercoastal next to their pool. My 21 yr old daughter really enjoyed relaxing there for part of the day. Beds were extremely comfy and room was well appointed with flat screen tvs in bedroom and in "living room". One chair at the kitchen table had a hole in the upholstery but this was the exception to the rest of the furnishings which were in excellent condition. Kitchenette was also well-equipped with modern appliances and serving pieces. Large marble bathroom also well-appointed and clean. Overall well satisfied with our choice. Chocolate chip cookies at check-in were pretty good too!
