Great Chicago Hotel

This is a great hotel with excellent service, food and rooms. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was a good size. It has a modern look but it was very cozy. The restaurant also has good service and food - especially brunch. Would recommend the restaurant as it is centrally located. Checkin and checkout was extremely efficient.

Only stay at The James

If you want to stay at a reasonably priced hotel, which is close to downtown, provides excellent amenities, a gracious staff, and has some of the best customer service I have ever seen; then stay at The James. Make sure to hit the gym, get a massage, drink at the hotel bar, try the burger, have your shoes shined over night, and order their fantastic room service.

Perfect downtown Chicago hotel

We found everything about the hotel to be wonderful. The location is fabulous. The staff could not have been nicer. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was spacious.

A Great Weekend

Really enjoyed this hotel. We happened to be staying when Second City was having it’s 50 year reunion and there was a party with plenty of famous people staying at the hotel. It was just fun seeing them in person. We loved this hotel. We were treated very well even though we were just people from out of town. The concierge was extremely helpful and kind. The only criticism I have is the elevators are extremely small and there were only two of them-this doesn’t seem like such a big deal but when there is a party going on and many people are trying to get an elevator it did end up taking us over 20 minutes to finally get one.

Room was nice, clean; concierge was helpful with things to do; hotel was walking distance to Michigan Ave and Millenium Park -- overall very good. This is not the place if you’re looking for an impressive lobby/building or a place with a great restaurant. But there are so many nice restaurants within walking distance, and I didn’t care about a fancy lobby/building. The rooms are comfortable. Great value. I would go back.

Quiet rooms, great beds,good shower with great water pressure

This hotel turned out just fine. Great restaurant in the complex, good staff. Quiet room inspite of being full. Great bed. Could have used a little more drawer space. Good shower with great pressure.

Architectual tour on the River Boat. Art Institute one of the best museums in the country. Millenium Park is amazing. Catch an Opera -one of the best.

Perfect Location!

The rooms were a little small, but the ammenities were great! My ONLY complaint is that there was only one set of elevators for the lobby and it got a little crowded sometimes. Otherwise, I would definitely stay here again. We were within walking distance of everything.......magnificent mile, navy pier, and awesome restaurants! The only time we needed a cab was to get to and from the airport.

Great Trendy Hotel

Loved staying at the James and would definitely stay again. We showed up around 10 am, 4 hours before check-in. I was hoping to just stash the luggage, but they put us into our room without a problem. The rooms are definitely "hip" and stylish. It is clearly an older building however, and although they did a great job rehabbing the rooms, you could see it in the way the floors were a little uneven, etc. Burke’s was also a winner. And all one block from Michigan Ave makes this a great place to stay. My only complaint was a sticky spot on the carpet, like someone spilled an entire bottle of liqour or something.

Cool Urban Boutique Hotel

From the beginning the service was excellent. The room was a nice size, comfortable bed, Khiel’s products, and really very nicely decorated. Room service was very good. Housekeeping was excellent. The only thing was that there wasn’t a dresser in the room. I’m used to moving in, even for a long weekend. We had to work out of our suitcase. It wasn’t too big of a deal, but it would have been nice to have some drawer space to put clothing and such. The doormen were awesome. The staff clearly understand customer service. The rooms were also very quiet, we hear a little street noise but never heard any noise from adjoining rooms. Free wireless, lots of hotels still charge for this service. Starbucks at the end of the block if you are a caffeine addict. Great location, great hotel, I’d definitely stay again.

Solid Experience

Great Location and very helpful staff. Comfortable room and very good room service. Bathroom was on the small side with the unusual sink design, while pretty, made it difficult to use the counter space. Only real complaint would be the 2 hotel elevators, which are on the small side and were often over-crowded leading to long waits to get on and then many stops with 17 floors.

Loved this place!

I stayed at The James with my mom and sisters for a day of shopping in the city. They had two double beds (not many hotels offer this anymore), the location was fabulous, and the service excellent. From the minute they parked my car and took my bags, the service was impeccable. They held my mother’s purse at the front desk for her all day. They stored a cake I brought and offered candles. The service was so great and so not pretencious (sp?). We loved the Kiehls products in the bathroom and the comfy beds. Having Trader Joes’s across the street is huge to run in and get bottled water and healthy snacks. Starbucks is also on the same block and there’s a nice bagel shop across the street that also offers egg breakfasts. There’s a movie theatre right across the street and you’re right around the corner from Michigan Ave. It really is perfectly located if you plan to spend your time on the Mag Mile!

The only place to stay....

I took my daughter to Chicago for the weekend and we stayed at The James..what a wonderful hotel. The staff are amazing. They are helpful, polite and eager to make the stay one of a kind. The food is amazing. It is a block off of Michigan Ave. I will go back and stay at this hotel again.

Great hotel

Love this hotel - 2nd time staying there and it didn’t dissapoint. The staff is extremely courteous and the rooms are great. The bed is one of the most comfortable things I’ve ever slept in. Location is great, for it is close to Michigan Ave and Rush Street, plus there are plenty of places around the hotel to eat. The lounge/bar area is a nice place to chill out before you head out to dinner or whatever. I will definitely be staying there again.

No comfortable chairs in the rooms. Service at the lounge could be better. Good location for shopping and restaurants.

Maybe the best ever?...

My wife and I had a short stay at The James over the weekend and found the room to be one of the nicest/coolest/comfortable rooms we’ve ever stayed in. I’m not sure, but think we may have received an upgrade to a room with a seperate sitting area and a seperate movie theater area. We couldn’t figure out the movie projector, but it didn’t matter, because we had two other tv’s and lots to do around the hotel. The bar downstairs is probably not worth the prices, but nice. The employees were very helpful and nice. We can’t wait to go back.

Directly across the street is a Trader Joe’s that has a pretty good and very cheap wine selection and bottled water, etc.

Fabulous hotel!!!

The James Hotel was fabulous! The rooms were terrific and the staff was soooo friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone!!

Hotel was a big part of a great first wedding anniversary

This hotel was fantastic!!!! Excellent service. Great ambiance. The location of the hotel puts you right in the middle of everything. We were just two blocks from Michigan Ave. We didn’t have to take a cab once our entire stay. Loved the hotel, loved the city, will be back!!!

Wonderful downtown location

The hotel was wonderfully located in downtown. Shops and restaurants within easy walking distance. Our maid service was good the first couple of nights and then seem to greatly dimish as the nights went on. One night ice in ice bucket, turn down service, and robe on bed. Next night turn down service and ice. Next night turn down service. Next night nothing. My husband was greeted at the door at 9:00 pm on the last night we were there as we were going to bed and was handed his mint. Very odd. We told the conciege places we wanted to see. He helped with some and not with others. We found out later one of the restaurants we were told was not great really was great. I think he was used to people who had lots more money to spend or who were on business. Overall we did like the hotel and it’s location. The doormen and desk people were very nice.

Walk to the museums and take a taxi back from them. It is not a bad walk, but you are tired afterwards. It is worth the money. Ask locals where they like to eat and go for Jazz. Blue Chicago jazz club was wonderful. The Back Door was very pricey on their covercharge and drinks compared to the music quality.

Great Hotel

This was a really nice hotel. The location was fabulous, and the confort level was really good. Since it was a downtown hotel, things were kind of tight, and it wasn’t the most spacious room we’ve ever seen, but they did try to make up for it with clever space planning. Also, since it was downtown, the neighborhood wasn’t the best. But you’ll find that with almost any downtown hotel. When you’re dealing with a city that large, you just have to be careful, period. All in all, we wish we could have stayed longer.

Absolutely impressed!!

The greatest part of our trip to Chicago was our stay at the James Chicago Hotel. The customer service at the hotel was outstanding. From curbside to curbside, the service was impeccable. The hotel staff took care of every detail. We were not used to being treated in such a respectful, thoughtful way. We would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Great hotel with wonderful location. Easy to get to just about everything. Small rooms but great beds. Not really a family hotel.

The hotel was nice and neat and the staff was friendly. However, the lack of elevators was difficult to deal with at times. 10-15 minute waits for elevator.
