Hotel Okura, a fine hotel.
Not widely used by tourists, the Okura is still regarded as the Number One hotel in Tokyo by the Japanese. The service is impeccable; English is the second language of almost all employees. We hadnt stayed there for over 15 years, but we could find not a single sign of deterioration. Our room in the Main Building overlooked the roof garden and was very pleasant. Over the past 49 years we have stayed in just about every good hotel in Tokyo; the Okura remains our favorite.

Quiet, understated elegance
The Hotel Okura, located in a quiet embassy and office district, is a warm, elegant hotel and an oasis away from the bustle of shopping and entertainment districts. This is not a high-rise extravaganza but an intimate experience despite its size. An early project by architect Yoshio Taniguchi, it is high modernist in concept but very warm in its finishes, the interior being clad in warm wood paneling and earth-tone tile with soft lighting. We had a standard room that was comfortable and fully updated. The hotel is a short walk from three different metro lines and is generally situated a few stops away from the major business and shopping districts. The staff was impeccable.
Traveler's tip on dining
We would recommend the Asian cuisine restaurants over the Western, but the Orchid Bar cannot be missed; it is a perfect 60s power den.
