Cute and conveniant Hotel

I liked the Hotel location. The area was quite with an easy access to the center. The dining and Bar over look the water and relaxing. the room was smaller than I expected but nice. the breakfast was nice. I would go back to it again when in Amsterdam.

Nice hotel for the price

We stayed five nights. Upgraded on-site to a larger room with a canal view, which was worth it considering the length of stay. The location is very nice, at the junction of 5 canals, it’s quiet and away from the bustle of downtown Amsterdam yet convenient to the airport and the museums, and close to the tram line into the city. A nice park and several small neighborhood restaurants are nearby.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Internet is available in the hotel but it is very expensive. A few blocks away there is a coffee cafe, and you can get 1 hr free wireless internet access for the price of a coffee.

Little out of the way but very comfortable

We chose this hotel due to its intermediate proximity to the university (for a conference) and the center of the city (for sightseeing). Although slightly out of the way, this was actually a feature, since the neighborhood was cleaner and quieter than around the hotels nearer to the city attractions. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room clean, bed comfortable, and generally a nice stay. Note, however, that due to the location and tram schedule this might not be an ideal place for someone who plans to stay out late night unless you’re okay spending 7+ Euros on a taxi.

Not impressed

The hotel was kind of old and the basic rooms were dirty and didnt have the iron, kettle, bed was old, dirty carpets as well a rusty smell. Since they had problem with the iron they upgraded, but still the rooms were not as expected to pay additional 30 Euro’s. But it is close to the tram to get in to the city. Tram 25 or 15 will take you to the central square. Will not stay there again.

Great Amsterdam Option

We arrived at the Golden Tulip from Seattle with our 6 yr old at nine in the morning and they had our room available within 20 mins. Big points there. Very nice, quiet & clean room with a view and friendly staff all around. The breakfeast albeit pricy, was very nice with a waterfront view and delicious spread including juices, eggs, bacon, salmon, cerials and a fine selection of pastries. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the Van Gogh and Rijks Museums and a 20 minute walk from the "Centrum" area. The Tram is a reasonably short walk as well. They always made us feel very welcome and were very helpful with suggetions, such as recommending Richard’s French Restaurant which was absolutely delicious and in walking distance. Would stay at the Golden Tulip again without hesitation!

Accomodating for those with children. There is a great park with play equipment on the grounds of the Van Gogh and Rijks Museums.

Nice hotel but be ready to pay

This is definitely a Business Persons type of hotel.. The price we had wasn’t too bad because it was in October but Parking is 25 euro and thats pretty much every hotel that’s that close to everything. I wasn’t happy about that but other than that it was fine. I will stay by the airport next time which I have more than once cause there is free parking and shuttles to the airport to catch the train to central station.. its quick and saves money. I would still recommend this to people who have the money and don’t plan on driving there.. that way you don’t have to pay for parking but the staff was very nice and helpful with getting around and there is a Tram Stop like 5 min walking distance from the hotel.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Tram Stop like 5 min walking distance from the hotel. take TRAM 5...one good party spot is Rembrandtplein(A lot of clubs and restaurants) but the staff gives you info, map, and shows you where to go and they recommend you use ATC taxi’s because they give you the best price..and the tram stops running at like 1 am I think or maybe midnight.

canal view rooms

Ask for a canal view room here, they are superb. You can get to this hotel on tram #5, get off at the Apollolaan stop. It’s about a 200 meter walk to the hotel from there.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Rent a bicycle and ride thru Vondelpark and south Amsterdam.

Pay for my internet? Oh paleazze!

The hotel was mediocre. now the beed was extremely comfortable and fit me and my 2 friends in it even though we fought over the blanket. the biggest problem was that the light in the bathroom went out, and they didnt come fix it till the next day even though they tried when i called them immediately. then when i came back in later that day, it was off again. So both mornings i showered in the dark. had to pay alot of euro just to get internet for the two days. hotel was not close to the city center. You have ti take train or taxi to get to where the action was at. and the manager smelled like smoke when i told him of the probs, he offered to take the 2 drinks from the mini bar off the bill. that was it... overall we americans are spoiled with customer service in the states so you must get used ot europe.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

if you are backpacking-try a hostel. if not, there are randonm hotels around the city that do not advertise online so worse case scenario, park your car and walk around loking for a hotel.

Relaxing Escape

This a very nice hotel to escape back to from an exciting night downtown. It is located south of all the attractions and excitement Amsterdam has to offer, but it is very easy to get to where you need to go. The service of the hotel was exceptional and the room very comfortable and relaxing. I would definetly recommend the Apollo to anyone that wants to be able to get back to a relaxing setting after being out and about!

Not impressed

The room temperature was overbearingly warm due to malfunctioning air conditioning. When an employee came to check it, we were told to wait 15 minutes and it should cool down, even though we had left it on high cool for the past several hours. We asked for it to be checked out again the next day and nothing had been done and when requesting assistance with this problem, we were told right off the back that there were no other rooms available to move to which wasn’t our intention to move, but to get the air conditioner looked at; therefore, there only solution was to give us a small fan to use.

Very Good For Relaxing Vacation

The hotel is very nice. The decor and the rooms are well kept and everything looks very high quality. The location is outside of the very active center of Amsterdam and this worked well for my wife and I because we were not looking for the all night party. We took the Tram to get near the hotel (5 min walk) on the first day. Most other times we started our day at the museum district(10 min walk) or Vondelpark(10 min walk). We walked or trammed from there to everything else. If you don’t like walking or have a strong desire to walk out of your door into an active social scene, this might not be the hotel for you. However, if your goal is to see Amsterdam and enjoy your time and relax a bit, this is a fine choice.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Someone suggested a local brewery and it was much better than any Heineken or Amstel. I don’t rembmer the name, but you take the #10 tram toward the East side and tell the ticket taker you are looking for the Windmill. It was a great place to drink good beer, cheap.

Great Hotel & Service

Hotel setting was just beautiful on the water, especially the view from the . We restaurant it perfect for us as it was close to the attractions. Just about a 10 minute walk. The hotel staff were really great. The restaurant was great with exceptional service. The shuttle from the airport was also great as it was right on time for pick up and only took 20 minutes. Would stay there again.

Nice hotel, off the beaten track

We stayed one night at this location. It’s a bit out of the way so you either have to drive or walk to downtown Amsterdam. We stayed in an executive room overlooking the canal which was nice. You have to pay $10 for an hour use of their internet service which we thought was high. For the price we paid we would have figured internet service would have been included. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room itself was lovely. Although not as sound resistant as I would have liked. I could hear people coming and going in the hallways and doors closing.
