Trapped at Hotel Sepia

Although the room was reasonably comfortable, you had no option for breakfast other than a $10 buffet in the hotel restaurant. You are a $20 cab ride from old town Quebec and the shuttle provided has limited availability. It cost $5 to make coffee in your room. There is nothing around you to walk to. I would not recommend staying here unless you have a car and get breakfast and coffee thrown in with the cost of the room.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Stay in a small hotel in the upper old town.

Very convenient

the bus being just at the corner very convenient. With only 3$ a day per person was a safer, as not worries about parking. The staff very friendly and rooms real nice, after recent renovation and real spacious.

excellent location for bus to old quebec, contemporary design, gourmet dining, large breakfast buffet

15 minutes from the airport. Contemporary design of funrniture, modern artwork, lights. King room had very modern walk-in shower accented with glass tiles and contemporary lighting and fixtures. The rooms were a bit crowded but accented with leather furniture. The best dinner in Quebec. $80.00 including wine for 2, dinner special. Gourmet meals ( and we are seasoned travellers 150 nights per year)exceptional service, calm, contemporary dining room. Large selection of food for breakfast buffet, excellent value.Located across the street from the tourist information center and the bus. Quick trip to the old Quebec city.

Great stay in Quebec

The Sepia is very nice. Rooms have been recently renovated and have a modern feel. Very clean. Staff is polite going out of their way to provide information about local happenings. Food and service at the restaurant are good. The Sepia is not near the old city. Shuttles to the old city run right by the hotel every 30 minutes or so.

Traveler's tip on shopping

Quebec’s largest mall is about two miles from the hotel.

It was good.

It was a clean, attractive, quiet hotel. There was a good buffet breakfast. They allowed us to have 4 women in one room. Our only complaint was that they should have given us four sets of towels and coffee/coffee cups for four.

Disappointment

I was relying heavily on the prior reviews to book this hotel and feel as if I was let down. We stayed here in early June and I reserved 2-queen beds. Both were very definitely full size beds, though the hotel confirmed they were queens. The room was very small and overall maintenance was fair, but a noticeable renovation was not top rate. The mattresses were not comfortable at all. MATTRESS COMFORT is the primary thing I want when reserving hotels. It was as hard as a rock (very disappointing). There is no hotel shuttle that takes you into the old city, but rather a nearby bus stop for a city bus -- very misleading. Don’t waste your time to save a few bucks. Put a little more money in your budget and get a better "boutique" hotel.

Wonderful experience

Room was immaculate. Decor was amazing. Food was superb and all staff went out of their way to help us see the area. Have recommended to our friends if they are going to Quebec City that they should stay at the Sepia.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Try the local bus and stay on for a great overview of the entire city.

very satisfied

the room was large enough for our party of three ,easy accessto all major highways in the area, a 3 minute walk to city bus station. the sepia had everything we needed for our three day trip to Quebec. the front desk persons we helpful to us for our touring. there is a great breakfast buffet at a reasonable price. Quebec is very expensive with there taxs . We found paris actually cheaper. this has nothing to do with the hotel we know which we found very good and would reccomend it highly

The Hotel where I felt like at home

This hotel kept pretty high level of service. Beds and room were clean and comfortable. The location is convenient too. Rooms could be more spacious though, but there were three of us in the room. If we are in Quebec, we’ll probably stay in there again.

Good rest leads to a good trip!

This Hotel is a short drive to all the attractions of Quebec City. The Old City, the nightlife and best reastaurants are all near eachother and are located down a pretty direct route from the hotel. The malls are close to hotel, too. I was very impressed with the staff. The room was very comfortable and quiet. You couldn’t even tell it sits beside the highway. I slept like a baby.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

I found street parking at night. If you park a little further from the clubs and don’t mind a short walk, you’ll save money on parking.

Great Hotel

While some of the reviews for this hotel were mixed, we had absolutely no problems during our stay. The front desk staff were friendly and spoke English. As some have mentioned, there is no elevator, but we were asked if we wanted a first or second floor room. Our room was a good size, clean, with a big comfortable bed. About a 20 minute drive to old Quebec, but right off the highway.

Traveler's tip on dining

I recommend the hotel restaurant, Galopin for Sunday brunch and the nearby Maison du Spaghetti for dinner.

Nice Small Hotel

It’s a smaller hotel, more like an American hotel, but nicer. The front desk people were helpful, the environment is clean, and the location is not bad (not far from the old town, just diagonally from a supermarket, etc).

Better for business travelers or those with a car

We picked Sepia because another review said it was within walking distance of the old city. We wouldn’t stay there again because we were there to see the old city and it was just too far away to walk, probably over an hour each way (and both my husband and I have lived in Europe and don’t mind the walk). The hotel was nice and very clean and the staff spoke English well enough to order a taxi or explain the bus system. Buy a pass! Our King room had a bed, two night stands with a digital clock, small wardrobe and a dresser that had 2 drawers, a TV and mini fridge on the end. Also a desk and leather arm chair with ottoman. There was complimentary coffee and tea- replenished everyday- as were the nice bathroom products. The bathroom was small but clean with no shower fan. A couple days after we arrived, they disabled the air conditioner. They also don’t have complimentary breakfast but the hotel restaurant Galopin, quite popular in the city, has M-Sat. breakfast and Sunday brunch. Can’t attest to the food. Within a 5 minute walk from the hotel is a very nice grocery store, Italian restaurant/pub, and well stocked drug store. There is also The Spaghetti House, which we visited on our first night - not great and expensive. However, the other Italian restaurant/pub was wonderful and the staff were sweet and friendly. I think Sepia would be nice for shoppers or business travelers-those with cars.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Chamin Ste. Foy, which is the other huge attraction in this beautiful city, is about a 20-30 min walk and has a shopping center, internet (Presse Cafe is wonderful) cafe, and restaurants. The mall is 3 buildings connected outside by small walkways. Its great and you can get anything you want. They also have a wonderful food court, complete with a Chez Ashton, the place in Quebec for poutine. Outside the mall is the place in Quebec for crepes, Au Petit Coin Breton. Both wonderful.

Not Impressed, Would not go back.

Hotel was clean, but the front desk staff was rude and short and not helpful with questions. Also there is free parking, but it fills up and then the front desk will tell you to drive around until someone leaves, which can waste a lot of time! There was a lot of construction going on around the hotel so it is not easy to access by car. Rooms are quite small.

No Elevator!!!

Hotel was satisfactory, but the lack of an elevator was a real impediment for an old fud like me. I’ll stay elsewhere, rather than schlep luggage up several stair levels.

Smallest Room I have ever had

This hotel is very clean and well appointed but the room I had was the smallest I have ever seen. There were 2 double beds and barely enough room to walk into the room and no place for more than one piece of luggage. There were two of us in that room and we were constantly bumping into each other. Also, if you get a second floor room, beware, there is no elevator so you have to lug your luggage up the stairs, not good.

A good place to spend a weekend

If it had’nt been for the roadworks that caused a tricky detour, the Hotel is easy to reach (2 min from the A 73 exit right at the outskirts of Quebec city, and easy to get downtown by car). The place is rather Motel-style with only 2 levels, rooms reasonably sized, clean and well equipped. Very freindly staff, breakfast buffet good standard, clean. WIFI working well, so no worries.

Not very impressed

The hotel didn’t have enough English spoken and this made my stay difficult. I would have to learn french in order to stay there again.
