good basic hotel in the U district

Stayed for 4 nights and selected the hotel based on location. This is a good basic hotel - nothing fancy but clean and convenient. Parking in back was convenient and seemed safe (lots of cameras). The room was very large and the beds comfortable. The continental breakfast was surprisingly nice with belgian waffles with toppings - more than one would expect for an included continental breakfast. Would come back.

Good Choice

Good budget choice near the University. Reception was extremely helpful and accommodating. The hotel was clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was terrific with a wide variety of choices. Local eateries are a short walk away. Ivar’s is a short taxi-ride or drive away for excellent fresh fish by the water with a nice view of downtown.

great breakfast bar!!

The best part of our stay was the breakfast offered in the AM--waffles, hard-boiled eggs, fruit, yogurt, cereal, etc.

Traveler's tip

Although the hotel offers free parking, there was not enough parking available for how full the hotel was. We parked on the street--had to move the car fairly early in the morning to avoid ticketing.

Wonderful stay yet AGAIN

This was my 3rd visit to University Inn this year (2009) and every single time was the same - simply amazing. I would reccommend this hotel to anyone who wants a clean, nice, comfortable room, and friendly staff at a competitive price...

Nice small hotel

I stayed @ University inn for one night for the UW orientation. The hotel staff upgraded our room to 2 queen beds instead of 1 queen. That was very nice since my daughter and I were both tired. I had my car but it was nice to ride on a shuttle van to and back from Seattle. It was easy to arrange an appointment and the driver was very kind. Free internet access and complimentary breakfast were great options.

Traveler's tip on dining

Little Thai restaurant, a few blocks away from the hotel on 42nd street, is so good and very inexpensive! Seattle Art museum is closed on Monday. I went there and it was closed, so I shopped and spent too much money instead...... geeeee

Awesome Hotel

My husband and I stayed at the Univeristy Inn for a few days before our cruise. The free shuttle was really helpful to get us downtown! We also walked to the campus which was beautiful! We were really happy with our choice. A taxi from the hotel to the cruise port was only $20! We saved tons not renting a car! We would highly recommend this hotel!

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Use the shuttle and or take a taxi!

Good location, room adequate.

Our room was a little small, but generally adequate. As far as the room and the bed, we expected more luxury for the price than we got. Best features of the hotel were (1)the concierge service at the desk--clerks were very helpful about sights to see and how to navigate the city and (2) its location in the midst of the university district. Tip: if you want to use the free shuttle, sign up well in advance as it tends to fill up quickly. Two minuses: our "atomic clock" was set to the wrong time and required the hotel engineer and his time on the internet to re-set it, but eventually it was fixed. Also, we ordered a breakfast-to-go a day in advance, to be sent to our room. It wasn’t. We had to call down to the desk and it was sent up, but by then it was time for us to meet our shuttle to the airport. (The shuttle is Shuttle Express @ $19 per person.) The complimentary breakfast & afternoon snacks are nice, but seating is a bit limited. Hotel guests do tend to mingle in the lobby, which exhibits a nice clientele, contributing to the congenial ambiance. Elevator to fourth floor was slow.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

We did ride the metro buses from Sea-Tac to our hotel in the university district ($1.75 per person.) Allow plenty of time, though.

We are going back to the University Inn!

We stayed at the University Inn because it was walking distance from the University of Washington (UW). We thought about renting a car but it wasn’t necessary because they have a shuttle service that takes you to the North UW campus, UW Hospital, downtown Seattle, and the Space Needle. The staff was friendly and helpful. They also had a great breakfast bar with yummy waffles. We had a great time in Seattle and would stay at there again!

Traveler's tip on dining

Try the Tofu Soup restaurant about two blocks away from the University Inn. It has great Korean food and the kim chee is to die for...

Good place to stay in Seattle

University Inn was a great place to stay, and definitely meets the needs for a basic traveler. They serve breakfast in the morning (with make your own waffles!) and snack in the afternoon (which is actually a great little pick me up). They also have a free shuttle that will take you into downtown, which is necessary since Seattle is not a walkable city by any stretch ofthe imagination. Now that I know how Seattle is laid out, I think I’ll try and get a place a little closer to the action next time, but this place met our needs and the staff was very friendly!

Great Value

My business travels take me to Seattle 3 times a year. I stay at University Inn EVERYTIME. It is conviniently located, nice ammenities, great staff, and consistently delivers a wonderful experience.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

When you book a trip online, be sure to see if wireless internet and parking fees apply - especailly in metropolitan areas. I tend to go where the wireless internet and parking are free like at University Inn

Convenient to all University District

We were close to everything in the University District and to the UW too. The staff was great with giving tips and directions and had brochures readily available. Also a shuttle service to downtown Seattle. Had a great cheese and fruit "snack hour" every afternoon - a nice treat after walking around all day!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Check out University Way, the main street through the district. Very eclectic shops and some great restaurants. Also almost all the places have free WiFi.

I would return

We had a wonderful experience with this hotel. The morning hot complementary breakfast was great. The evening menu was not very interesting however, but adequate. The free shuttle service to local areas was fast and reliable. The location allowed a lot of flexibility for tourist activities, good access to the freeway and seemed to be in a "safe" area. We liked the in room refrigerator and microwave. The coffee pot was not good though. We are tea drinkers and the taste of coffee came through the machine. Overall, though I would stay at the location again.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Take full advantage of the hotel’s free shuttle service to local attractions.

Convenient Location in Seattle

We really liked it and have already recommended it to a friend. It’s only four stories, clean and quiet. I was impressed that there was a sealed alcohol wipe resting on the remote control! Although they don’t have a restaurant, coffee and tea are always available in the lobby and they provide a very nice breakfast bar (make fresh waffles, toast, muffins, yogurt, fruit, juices, etc) as well as an afternoon setup (cheese, crackers, fruit and more). There is a Cafe just a few steps to the South. There’s easy access to I-5 as well as a straight shot downtown from the street it’s on (Roosevelt) which becomes West Lake Drive. The cost was very reasonable! So save your money for all the other things you want to do in Seattle and stay here!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Enjoyed the ferry to Bainbridge Island where we had breakfast at a great local restaurant then drove around the Island; Pike Place Market is a must; Gas Works Park (North end of Lake Union) perfect vantage point for great pictures of downtown; didn’t go to the Space Needle this time but if you haven’t, you should; Lots of terrific small restaurants & coffee shops (our fav - The Sugar Shack Baking Co. on Lake City Way!);

Great value and service

In Seattle for a week on business, this was the perfect location to get around the city. My room was on the small side but comfy and clean. Young gentlemen at the front desk were always smiling and greeted me when I came home each day. Free laundry and afternoon snacks were nice. I loved sitting at the counter seat in the early AM watching the traffic on Roosevelt during breakfast. One complaint was a somewhat weak wifi. Overall, excellent value for service, location, and comfort. 5-minute walk to the UW campus and the full-bloom cherry blossoms during my stay. I will stay here again for sure.

Traveler's tip on dining

Walk south toward the UW Medical Center to the Agua Verde Paddle Club and Cafe on Boat Street. Great tacos, salsa bar, iced drinks and atmosphere.
