Great location

The room was clean, but needs to be updated. Great location.

Great view, but...

Our room had a stunning view of Mirror Lake. But the bathroom was so small that you had to stand in the tub to close the door! In an alcove was a tiny sink with almost zero counter space. All the electrical outlets in the room were in use -- we had to unplug the alarm clock to charge our phone. The breakfast selection was very poor. It seemed that as items ran out, they were not replenished -- and this over a three-day period!

Convenient and clean

Less than a block from the main shopping/dining street in town, this was very convenient for walking to the downtown attractions. The staff was friendly and the rooms were clean. For the price, this was a good value. I would definitely stay here again.

Good

I have stayed at this hotel couple of days and it was a fantastic experience. Room was clean, service was prompt and one good thing is that the rooms are very very spacious. The hotel must have been constructed during 80’s for they had very generous room space in this day and age. It is pretty close to the main street and mirror lake. I highly recommend this hotel. The dancing bears restaurant has a fantastic beer battered haddock sandwich. Also, if you like big breakfast’s try the 46 sandwiches place

Not Impressed

Not at all what I thought it would be even after reading the reviews I figured it must be nice the name of the place makes you think it’s going to be nice but not so much. The main lobby is very nice but that is where it stops,the beds are way to soft and old, the shower is soooo small, the blankets are hard, the curtains didn’t close and when you turned on the heat the curtain blow open all night so we had to leave the heat off in order not to hear blowing curtains all night. Lake Placid beautiful this "Hotel" not so much

O:K for a place to sleep and shower

We stayed at the hotel for a weekend of skiing and sight seeing. We checked in on Friday p.m. and the room was soooo hot we had to open up all the windows. After a few hours the room cooled off. The bad part was the dumpster was outside our window. We had a chuckle everytime they throw things in. My kids loved the pool and jaucuzzi. I found it too loud with a few hockey teams there and the jacuzzi didn’t work well but if you are 9 it is great !! The room was clean.Breakfast was fine for us. We just wanted a bite to fuel us up for skiing. The location was great you could walk down town from the hotel. The shuttle bus was free and made for a easy ride to white face. It’s not fancy or top notch but overall it was fine for what we needed it for. It was clean had a great location and priced right.

Will go back...

We did enjoy our stay very much, but wish we had asked who was sharing our floor. Unfortunately a tour bus of British teenagers had rooms all around us. They were being typical teens - up and down the halls until late, opening and closing doors, and loud talking with one another as well as knocking on each other’s doors at 5:30 A.M. We’ve learned that we’ll ask who our neighbors are next time. Otherwise-the hotel was nice, conveniently located, and reasonably priced. We’ll go again.

Older hotel in need of work

We had a 2 bedroom suite that was comfortable and clean but old and somewhat worn. The common areas of the hotel were showing even more age. For instance the elevator makes you nervous. ’Continental’ breakfast was included but was a real disappointment. Coffee ran out, no butter or jam, stale bread. For the weekend rate, a really poor value.

Belevedere Restaurant in Saranac Lake (10 miles) was basic but good and much lower cost than L Placid.

Decent for the price

Good location. Friendly and helpful front desk staff but some of the housekeeping staff need hospitality training. Room was clean but dated. Need firmer mattresses. New heating units that don’t sound and feel like you’re in a hurricane would be nice. Continental breakfast was better than expected and staff did a great job with supply and demand. Overall, satisfied with stay and would return.Price was right.

Could have been better

We were looking for an inexpensive hotel for our stay in Lake Placid. I guess we were expecting a little more from this hotel. The service was great, the gentleman at the front desk upgraded our room because we weren’t too happy with the first one we got. The rooms were clean and very large. Ours had a fireplace, but it was only for show. The bathrooms were quite small, as was the vanity area, so it made getting ready in the morning a little bit of a chore. The beds were firm, but not uncomfortable. The sheets were very worn, even had a rip in them. The hotel had a little bit of a "smell" to it, I think it was just a kind of old smell. The location was great, it was close to Main Street and not too far from the Olympic Skating rinks, which were what we came for. But we ended up staying 2 nights at this hotel and then booking another hotel that was a little nicer for the rest of our stay. If you’re looking for an inexpensive hotel and don’t plan on being in the room but to sleep, this hotel should be fine. But if you want a little more, it may be worth it to look around.

Simple hotel but great views. Fantastic location. Just a little worn around the edges.

Great location

Hotel was clean. Staff was friendly and competant. Location was great. We were able to walk to all the downtown shops and restaurants. Price was reasonable compared to competition. My only complaint was the small size of the room. We will go back to this hotel in the future.

Needs Improvement

Our overall stay was not the quality of stay we normal accept. Bed was terribly uncomfortable (very soft), and overall condition of the hotel needs improvement. Elevator surely showed its’ age, with lots of scratches and marks. Also, room had a very strong smell of a floral air freshener or something real obvious. Will not plan a stay here again.

Better than I expected

Had read some somewhat negative reviews and was apprehensive. However, upon arrival we were greated cordially; our room turned out to be a two room suite on the third floor. All was quiet, perfect for sleeping. Our one problem, the air-conditioner/heater had dirty filters which were immediately cleaned and replaced within minutes of our request. Would be happy to return.

Don’t be scared...

My boyfriend and I were a little hesitant to stay here after we read some of the negative reviews. We were pleasantly surprised. While this was not the fanciest hotel I’ve ever seen, it was certainly clean, comfortable, and the employees were all very friendly. Many of the hotels in this area (the ones that are more reasonably priced -- not the expensive, ritzy ones) are not as nice as this one. For the money that we spent, we felt like we got a good deal.

Not Bad

After re-reading other reviews I almost ate the 25 dollars and canceled our reservation. I’m glad I didn’t. Although the pool and restaurant were both closed, the room was spacious and clean. If you are a "hotel snob" do not stay at this hotel as the decor is a little outdated and they are remodeling but if you are looking for a clean spacious room at a reasonable rate within walking distance to the shops and the skating center this hotel is a good choice.

Before shopping, look for coupons in the area books that are available for free. We did this and we saved 15 percent on our entire bill at the Olympic Store. If you are attending a show or anything that draws a crowd be sure to make reservations for dinner. I would not eat at the pasta place across from the skating center again we had to send two glasses back twice because they were dirty. I’m just glad nobody got sick.

Not bad

After re-reading other reviews, I almost ate the $25 cancellation fee to book at another hotel. I’m glad I didn’t. The hotel room was as big or bigger than pricier hotels we have stayed at and it was very clean (although the beds were double / not queen which is what we prefer - the beds were doubles as advertised). The pool and restaurant were still closed, but for the price it was quite a deal. If you are a "hotel snob" this may not be the place for you because the hotel is in need of decor updating, but if you want a big / clean room at a reasonable price, this is a good choice. Walking distance to shops and Olympic Skating Center.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Window shop, then pick up one of the travel books laying around the shops (freebies) and look for the coupons in them. We saved 15 percent on our total purchase at the Olympic Store by doing this. If you are in town for an event, be sure to make a reservation for dinner. I do not recommend the pasta place across from the skating center - we had to send back our glasses twice because they were dirty, pressed for time or we would have left - thankfully we didn’t get sick.

Hotel needs maintainance, bad.

Mold in the bathroom and along the ceilings. Cracks had opened along most of the joints in the floor, walls and ceiling. Poor construction and even worse maintainance.

Great value, good location, and very comfortable

We stayed here for the Lake Placid Horse Show, we got bumped up to a suite due to a room shortage which was excellent, very comfortable. The hotel is in the midst of renovations, hope they keep the prices low so we can come back next year!

You get what you pay for!

We booked this hotel as part of a package deal so were not given too many options in hotels. Although it is in a wonderful location for a Lake Placid vacation, the hotel itself is in poor run down shape. We stayed 8 nights. It was cheap, smelled of old nursing home or something, and had paper thin walls! The carpeting throughout the rooms and the hallways appear to be well over 20 years old! The doors had major gaps. I attended a figure skating camp so was there for 8 nights. I will be back in Lake Placid yearly but will look for a little nicer place. It would be worth paying a bit more for something decent. Since we were hardly in the hotel, it was at least a room within walking distance of everything I needed. The house keeping service was shocking. They would leave dirty sheets in the halls overnight...they did not do much to room when they knew you were staying. I say check out other hotels and be willing to pay more for something more desirable.

I got sick from eating at the Cottage. I believe it was food poisioning from the "special". Order anything but the special...giggle. I attended a figure skating week camp at the Olympic Center. If you are doing that sort of thing...this hotel is at least within walking distance to it.

Good basic family accommodations

The Summit is a nice place to stay. Clean, convenient (it is right in town) and very friendly staff from top to bottom. Also quite a tasty breakfast. It is one of the older motels around so it is in need of some repair and that being said, it seems to be getting all the attention it needs. A face lift is in the works and I can’t wait to see it when its completed. My family and I will definitely stay here again.

Truly budget accommodations

This hotel is in a great location, but that’s the only positive. It’s been open for over a year, yet much of the construction remains incomplete. It also appears they have insufficient funds to properly maintain the common areas. The guest rooms are servicable and clean, but the common areas felt dirty and are in a general state of disrepair. Pool smells permeate the complex and the hot tub is perpetually out of service. Vending machines are regularly out-of-order. This place works if you just need a cheap place to stay, but isn’t necessarily the right spot for creating ideal vacation memeories.

Avoid if possible

I am writing this review from the hotel. And it is bad. The room is bare and cold. Bathroom has a bare "hospital" feel, no hooks to hang towels, big brown spot on the ceiling. Hotel is severely understaffed and service is very bad. No towels in the pool. There is coffeemaker in the room, but for two days no coffee - had to call the front desk. The restaurant waitress hardly speaks English and the food in the restaurant is inedible.
