One time, a long time ago, when my boys were little, we arrived at this hotel at about 3 in the morning. The snow storm made our 8 hour trip into a 16 hour marathon. I was late for my 5PM reservation. Those nice people didn’t charge me for that day. I’ve always had a warm feeling for this place ever since. Well, it was new then and over the years it more or less went to seed. You know -- seedy. Like when you don’t pick a radish and the greens grow real tall and start to seed. So, my boys are grown and gone now and I had to go to Evansville again -- does anyone go to Evansville unless they have to? (That’s not fair, Evansville is nice.) I’m loyal. I made my reservation. Bingo! Pretty nice. Prairie style furniture. Big fluffy pillows. My wife wants to divorse me and marry the bed. I’ll admit I’m not much of a husband and it is a nice bed. Even little touches like bevelled glass in the bathroom. Concerning the staff, very professional and personable. I would not go here if you want to be anonymous. A manager is always at the desk and seems to make a point to address every person that comes and goes. These people care. But now, the most important part -- the breakfast buffet. It’s not the Healdsburg Inn on the Plaza, but its good. Great variety, bright, clean. That’s about it. Good location. It’s on the main east west drag. Great price. Lots of small food joints. I’ll be back.

Traveler's tip on dining

Janbo Chinese Restaurant - 4500 W Lloyd Expy It’s a buffet but you can order carry out. Get the chicken with chinese vegtables in white sauce. Get an egg roll on the side. Wery good. It’s so cheep you’ll cheer.

This is our third stay at the Fairfield in Evansville. Each time the hotel has been clean, the staff courteous, and the breakfast buffet has been excellent. A new added amenity is the use of two hotel computers. Will be back.
